Now that is a good idea. Any ideas on how much each box costs. I would probably have to spray paint them or something because I only have clear bottles. I will defo be getting me summa those.

They were in the Homebase sale last Xmas, tenner each I think. Much better than any other boxes I've tried.

Mine are full of clear bottles. I'm not sure I buy the whole "you mustn't use clear bottles" thing, I've been using them for years - they're usually in the dark....fridge, garage, under the stairs...it isn't often you leave them exposed to full sunlight for weeks on end. Mind you, it isn't often we get weeks of full sunlight in this country lol. :D

I've looked them up and they seem quite dear. I did find these though which seem a little less sturdy but more affordable. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 0903413732

You have to be careful with some plastic boxes as some of them aren't quite tall enough to accommodate some of the bottle heights and stack with the lids on. I have also found this with some of the 20 bottle milk bottle crates, they will accommodate specific homebrew bottles OK but not the majority of commercial bought brown bottles which need the extra height of the 12 bottle milk crates.

I have today collected rather more 500ml brown bottles than I need.
Managed to find an entire pallet load of 1400 locally so bought the lot and shoved them in my barn.

I didn't have time to beg/borrow from local pubs and wanted all the bottles to be the same so I decided to buy some instead. I got the whole lot cheaper than I could get 150 delivered from eBay. All unused (so unlabelled) but have been stored outside so are a bit grubby. Will wash in batches as each brew is ready then (hopefully) build up a decent brew stash!! :drunk:

You should have a bottle wash party, get friends round ply them with home brew and get them scrubbing the bottles for you, keeps you hands soft and clean lol

At the moment I have over 200 hundred bottles, however, 80 of these are destined for the kitchen sink as they are no where near as good as the latest batches of extract recipes I have done, they both have an over malty taste.

Ordered a pressure barrel with an amirillo kit and going to give barrels a go to supplement bottling.

But surely still drinkable? Where do you live? Need some help?

At a recent peak I had nearly 400 bottles, 75% 500ml and 25% 330ml but had to have a rest from brewing as i was running out of space. It gave me a chance to catch up as i'm not a quantity drinker, I have about 70 left at the moment and need to get out of the habit of sending people away with an armful of beer after a visit to my house! :hat:

Just for those with storage problems. Wilkos have those types of opaque tubs in the sale although not the sturdiest ones. If you want to stack two or three on top of each other clas ohlson have 14inch high ones at two for £11.99.i stood on one in the shop yesterday and it took all 12 stone of me. If you want the lids as well they are 2 for £7.99 so £20 for some very sturdy tubs. Not bad really.
