I got my coolbox from asda £7!! was going to get the 30ltr one from Argos but they no longer do it, instead do a 24ltr for the same price as the 30ltr one :wha:! I wont be doing my first brew for a couple of weeks, need to order gains and hops etc was supprised how cheap it is to get all the ingredients when pricing up!!!! alot cheaper than a decent kit!!

I read somewhere that you had to take out the resistor with little light on, and join the wires together! :nono: That was a no no and there was a bang and a trip of the electricity! so I soildered them back in place! It works now (atlast) :D

Not the only one to have read that post and tripped the leccie I can assure you!!!

I would also remove the cut out pin behind the metal disc in the element, After around 12 boils one of my elements starting cutting out ( luckily I have 2 in there so soldiered on) - I have now removed that pin ( light blue I seem to remember) and problem solved. Just bent the disc slightly and it dropped out.

Well after the test run failing, carpet burning incident an being told to buy a boiler. I've got one via fleabay! so i'm going to be collecting my new 29L Enamelled Steel Electric Boiler some time this week! and will visit Ikea in Leeds for one of the cheap thermometers! :thumb: May try and rescue my home made disaster (boiler) and use it as a HLT!

The pipe showing out of the top is to sparge with inside is similar to Muddydisco's I've also use the hole for the sparge arm to put the thermometer probe into the mash tun :thumb:

IIRC The ones from Screwfix don't need drilling out

Rather than filing it out, get hold of a 15mm blacksmiths drill and drill the blooming thing out . . . Its easier if you have a pillar drill but can be done with a hand drill.

CLICKY I know it's a set but you could start up your own little enterprise drilling out tank connectors for home brewers

Yes they do unfortunately :(

Yes.

Now try finding a 15mm drill. Easier said than done.
I just walk down the road to where I get my propane and CO2 (A Welding Supplies Place) and they have them on the shelf. . . . . . Screwfix have obviously changed suppliers

About 8 quid here
EB you are a nasty evil man . . . I've just spent a fortune with Chronos

Hopefully I can get it hidden away before She finds it

Hi,

I have built my boiler and all looks good, except that I used a tank connector to connect my tap and now I cant fit a pipe to act as a hop filter. The hole on the inside of the tank connector is too narrow. How do I go about making the slot wider or making a correct sized pipe?

Also I put a rubber seal between the tank connector and the plastic of the bin, on the inside of the bin. Was this necessary?

thanks

Beg/Borrow/Steal a 15mm drill and drill the inside of the tank connector out.

No, you only need one on the outside. It won't hurt though.
