almost ready to do my first AG brew - possibly next week end if i build my mash tun this weekend!
so my question is about water treatment - am i getting overly worried about it or should i invest some time / money into this? When brewing kits i normally add a half campden tab to the water - but reading threads here i`m concerned that my brew will suffer if i disreagard water treament - and i don`t want this to spoil my first brew!

any help or advice would really help as i want the first brew to go well without stressing about this subject i know very little about. :wha:

Don`t worry about it. You will have plenty of time to think about water treatment in later brews. You will still make a beer several times better than any kit.

Stick to the campden treatment first time around and see how it goes :thumb:

cheers wez and dk - thats what i wanted to hear!! really want to enjoy the first brew day!!

got my first 25kg sack of MO grain today!! smells lovely and i can`t wait - i`m lucky to have a maltings on my doorstep - tuckers maltings in newton abbot

Forget water treatment until you have a sound brewing technique . . . that is orders of magnitude more important than water treatment!

wez, aleman cheers!

yeah it smells great - teasing me!!

will be posting my first brew with pics

the only thing I have to add is that if you are concerned about treating your water then buy cheap bottled water form Toscos or asdal . I did that for several brews before I started treating my tap. the only reason I did is because the water here is so hard that chunks of lime come out of the tap.
But as the rest say dont get hung up on it, get used to the basics of brewing, then later on fiddle with your water.....

Stand by to be amazed with the quality of your first AG.... no matter what the water source is.

How much did you pay for your grain?

bones - my sack of MO pale malt (crushed) was £28.50 for a 25kg sack - this seems pretty good value and as its only ten miles from me - and on the way to my parents - no hidden costs like delivery!

they do deliver for £6.50 per 25kg - my LHBS sells the same exact malt for £35!!!

if you go to http://www.tuckersmaltings.co.uk/ - i`m really lucky to have this place near me -it`s a traditonal floor maltings and they do tours and brew beer also!

they also sell a whole range of grains by the kg and sack - i just give them a call and its ready next day!!!
