Does anyone know why this pid is going dodgy. The top display in red the PV display is very erratic and not giving a steady temp reading. Its just jumping around

afaik the auber models are top shelf, what probe is attached, is it shorting and is the lead damage free?

try swapping out for a new one and test if u dont have a spare probe a 100 ohm resistor should give a 0C reading when the pid is set for pt100 probes.

For calibtration purposes a hi precision and xpensive resistor should be used but a bog standard +/- 5% job will be an indicator, if it gives a jumping reading it would point at the pid controller,,

I have 2 Aubers. One is rock solid and the other is imprecise. It cannot report a consistent temp reading. At first, I thought it was the fault of the thermocouple and wiring. However, I switched the PIDs to each other's wiring and the dodginess stayed with the PID. So I now have that PID controlling my HLT heating since precision isn't an absolute requirement there.

Apparently, Aubers can and do go screwy.

PS: I've also used Omega PIDs and they were sometimes screwy too.

Thanks its sorted now. Had to change the pid parameters apparently usa electric runs on 60 hertz uk electric runs on 50 hertz so it was electrical line interference

Very intrigued by this. I have used Auberins PIDS for many years shipped from the USA and have never had any problems with mains frequency. What parameter on the PID do you adjust to change from 60Hz to 50Hz?

Not sure what the "0065" setting is. I use an Auber SYL2352 and there's no setting like this in the manual. Indeed, the manual points out that this PID doesn't care if the ac is 50 or 60 Hz - it works with either.

Because of the concerns raised over mains frequency causing erroneous readings, I thought I would check with Auberins re their PIDs. I quote their reply: "SYL-2352, 2342 and 2372 use a different type power supply system. It does not need to adjust the setting for power line frequency. Only our SYL-2362 and SYL-1512A need to adjust the setting. This only become an issue when RTD sensor is used. Not every customer had this issue either."
