Ain't no atheist on a sinking ship so they say, I bet most people say a prayer in desperation just before they draw the last terminal breath.... But... what really gets me is that people blame God for all the troubles going on in the World where really it is MAN who has messed up the fantastic place that God had created for us in the first place, and we blame God! (Laughs and shakes head in disbelief)
Good post, your right.
Prepare yourself for the hate! Or at least examples of suffering

How can anyone take a religion seriously when they name one of their people after a character from a 70's kids show? Zebedee? Seriously?
And here was me thinking that the religious sorts had no sense of humour.

I must have missed the part (in the bible) where they discussed time machines. ;)

When a school bus goes over a cliff and one child survives, the parents claim it is a miracle. But the parents of the 49 children who died don't see it that way. When a statue 'bleeds' they claim it's a miracle - has god nothing better to do on a weekend?

Pi being 3.14159..... is not a belief, it's a provable fact!
Quite so. And one can choose to believe it or not. Granted it would be foolish to refuse to accept the value of pi, but there are those who insist on believing the Earth was created in 6 days, too. As for miracles, every birth is a miracle in the Sun, and every lottery win, too.
I hope you don't think I'm trying to argue the case for a God I don't believe in myself! I simply find the phenomenon of religion and the way it makes people behave fascinating. "The hate" has been mentioned above. Why are some disbelievers as vehement and bigoted as some of the most fundamentalist of beleivers? Take Dawkins for example. I wonder if there's a discipling looking at the psychology of religion.
Anyway, here in Valhalla, we have some quite different ideas.
And some jolly decent beer.

I don't think Dawkins has ever shown hate?? I wonder why America is so religious still? Iron as it was founded by people trying to escape dogma and prescribed beliefs. I'm like you in that I find religion fascinating. Shi'ites and Sunnis will unite against the infidels until there's peace and then they kill each other!

Ancient Druidism would be but nothings known of it so any version practised today is very modern.

That's not actually true.

My version of Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism was given to me by an elm tree, who in turn learnt it from a long line of elm trees stretching back to the beginning of time, and is therefore completely accurate and the one true faith.

I can send you a free book about it if you like, just enclose a cheque, or cash to the amount of £999.99, to cover postage and handling, and I'll send you a copy.

I guarantee it will change your circumstances, or your money back.

Elm Trees have only existed for 20 million years.

Yeah Clintology commonly using the theory of Clintetics. All hail the great leader Clint

PM me your address. Looks a bargain. Not a Dutch Elm, I hope.

In Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism, pre-Elmian times are considered dark, and pre history. Therefore, my statement was correct. Besides, how do you know that they have only existed for 20 million years? Please don't say 'science' - what has that ever shown mankind?

I'll join your religion Clint, so long as it's based upon provable facts and beer. You could even adopt the Landlord's Prayer.

Our Lager,
which art in barrels,
hammerred be thy aim.
Thy will be drunk,
I will be drunk,
at home as it is in taverns.
Give us each day our foamy head
and forgive us our spillages,
as we forgive those who spilleth against us.
And lead us not into temperance,
but deliver us from alcopops.
For thine is the barley, the hops and the yeast.
For ever and ever
Barmen.

I can't tell if you're baiting me or just being daft.

What's the difference between a christian and an atheist?
The atheist believes in one less god than the christian.

I'm the third church going Christian.

I reckon life is hard for all of us.

If some of us cling to a liferaft, that's OK. If some of you want to come on board for a time, that's OK. If some of you are happy swimming, that's OK too.

I'd like to think we can all tell each other our stories with sincerely and respect.

So I guess it saddens me a bit when people shut down/put down/mock faith. **** it - life is hard enough without pissing on someone else's chips.

Cheers

Martin

Excellent but would change ever and ever to water and water after are they not the four life elements of our BEER...

The thing is I vaguely remember reading something along the lines of if you get enough followers it's a religion...
But the Jedi lot were refused recognition even though they have a church in North Wales somewhere...
They fit the criteria but got refused...can't be arsed reading why but it was in the news...
Jedi is no more fanciful than anything else from my point.
