I am about to use some brewers gold to replace fuggles in a bitter recipe as I seem to be going off the fuggles taste at the moment. The hops I have are Brewers Gold from France and 6.1 AA any advice on taste etc. P.s I am using with equal quantities of EKG in the recipe all the way through

I've used them as a bittering hop, quite a long time ago. Very smooth with something of the bittering quality of Magnum, which has now replaced them in my hop store for no particularly good reason. Never used them as a late hop, though.
I should add that, looking back through my records, my BG were from Germany.

...I might also add that I've been experimenting with different hops in my quest for the perfect bitter mis-remembered from my youth when all beer (nearly) was er, rather poor, and I'm getting very excited about Pilgrim as a single varietal.

A while back I posted here asking for recipe advice on bitters (and thanks all for the very helpful replies). I used Pilgrim (plus EKG and Bobek) in my subsequent brew and it was by far the best bitter I have made. About 15g Pilgim as dry hop. Pls let us know how your single hop with Pilgrim works out.

I'll be happy to. It's just coming up to its proper carbonation level so won't be long. Couldn't resist having a little taste though (that's the beauty of doing a couple of half-litre PETs- you can squeeze all the air out again). Made another at the same time with Sovereign. Exactly the same malt profile. Completely different flavour.

Funnily enough my second choice to use was Pilgrim instead of fuggles. I also once used Target as a late hop and that was a good beer contrary to it being used as a bittering hop. I will do it with Brewers Gold and report the end result in a couple of weeks etc

I recently did a bitter with target for bittering challenger and target for aroma, it was very nice, looking at my notes it was target 30g 60 mins, aroma challenger 25g 15 mins, target 10g 5 mins
