So the plan is to ride it this summer and then total strip down and rebuild through the winter.

ahhhhh. have you ever heard of pandoras box? you know the score, ill just do this, ends up being im going to sodding do everything :rofl:

had a few aircooleds, 200 250 400 as well as suzi 250 and 500's too. been hankering after another one for years but ive too many bikes already!

saying that an sdr 200 wouldnt take up too much room if i can find one :grin:

Well, my commuting on the bike is going very well so far, and in an attempt to improve my riding, I've signed up for a BikeSafe course with the Police in July

Gotta, love the commuting - costs less in fuel than the train, reliably faster than the train door to door (avreage 20 to 30 mins faster in the mornings, 10 - 20 mins faster in the evening) - and it's a whole lot more fun! :mrgreen:

I'm currently riding a VTR1000F both for commuting and for the weekend blast. In the meantime I'm rebuilding a GS550E with a friend of mine. Hopefully I'll have my dissertation out of the way tomorrow to concentrate on rebuilding the bike.

Ab-using an Aprilia Falco here.

Had I been here a month ago I'd have suggested the FZS 1,000 as the bike to buy for the commute, or the FZS 600 for the thrifty commuter. I've had both and they do lots of MPG, or very few MPG depending on, well, as a biker you'll know why they do very few MPG :)

Got to say the ZZR1100 is an awesome bike, chased and passed a few over the years, chased and failed to pass a few more!

I fitted a scottoiler to the bike yesterday - here's to many trouble free miles with no need to replace the chain and sprockets!!

I have a BMW R1200GS that hasn't been ridden since june 2011. Reading all these posts driving me nuts. I did a bike safe day with the Police a few years back. It was a fantastic days riding and i learned so much. :thumb:

passed my CBT last year so its only a 125 for me just now SWMBO was only to happy for me to get a bike as she now has the car full time , now a dont know if that was such a good deal traded a merc jeep for a saddle :hmm: :hmm: especially in the rain but 126 miles on one tank of fuel bargain :party:

If you're travelling any serious distance you 'need' a 500cc bike at least :)

More serioulsy, Goretex kit, look for a Heine Gericke near you for affordable stuff, will keep you warm and dry all year round. If you are really nesh then search for Klan heated clothing and buy yourself an 'electric blanket' for under your bike jacket.

Anything much bigger than a 500 and you start to lose the fuel economy, unless you get a Yamaha with the early FZ spec engine, these are the older bikes, pre 2005, and can be hugely fast when you want them to be as well as good on fuel :) I had an FZS 1,000 that would do 150 (GPS) two up at one end of the scale and 90 mpg at the other, it usually averaged 40 mpg despite me enjoying the bike a lot :)
