Man, their IPA is so good.

Was in the craft beer co, Covent Garden, and asked for a beer made with centennial. To their credit they instantly recommended this, and politely warned us it was £7 a pint.

And worth every penny in my eyes (though I might be biased by the fact I wasn't paying); like bright blood red grapefruit with lovely hard bitterness and a mineral after taste. God it's good.

I have to brew a hardcore centennial IPA like this.

Agreed - they make cracking beers.
Not sure if I tried the IPA when I went to the brewery last summer (had been to a few of the other Bermondsey breweries on route, which were all £6 a pint at the time IIRC) - and I think they've closed the tap room at the kernel now???

My mouths watering reading your description - please post the recipe if you make something similar!
I have used centennial before and its a great hop. I'm thinking of a centennial brew as part of a single hop series - inspired by the hop schedules of some of the brewdog single hop recipes - and I think you've just made my mind up.

I've had their citra IPA, wonderful!

Even bought their table beer. Only about 3% I think. That was also wonderful.

My local specialist bottle shop stocks a lot of their stuff. Well he stocks ALOT of stuff. :-)

Brings back memories of the Red Cow near Smithfield Market a couple of years ago. I thought is was 3.70 a pint, how wrong I was. I blame my mate who only went in to use the loo :D
One of the best pints I have had though (think it was Pacific ale from NZ)

They're porters nice. I can walk to the Kernal brewery (its about 30 mins away). I really should visit when they are open on saturdays and buy some of their beer

Ask Wines in Woodford (just outside the Tube Station - North Side) Stock them and other craft beers - nice guy in there now stocks Rochefort 10 for me - he has Kernal in stock, but Kernal has always given small measures for about £4 a bottle. Damn good brewery!

If only i could find a 'proper' London Porter

Probably had more different beers by The Kernel than any other brewery.

It's not just their hoppy beers which are great, try their 1890 Export Stout and 1856 Imperial Brown Stout. So good.

Dan, they have closed their tap room yes. I believe they're still open for off sales and would imagine they'll be opening another tap in a larger space in the near future.

Will have to give this a whirl, loved the red brick they did a couple of yrs back

Are you maybe thinking of Pacific Ale by Stone & Wood, from Oz? One of my most favourite beers that. :thumb:

Also isn't it Kernel? [/pedantic]

Have these actually ever made a bad beer? I had their pale ale last night, cascade, nelson sauvin and something else. Outstanding.
And enjoying an Amarillo IPA (7%) now. Bloody lovely.

On a side note, last night I tried a weird beard brewery Mariana Trench. Hands down the best beer I've had in a while. Seek it out, you'll be impressed.

I made a clone of their east india porter. It was great 2 weeks after bottling and it continues to get better. Must show more restraint and keep some for the future.

Mariana Trench is a great beer, also love their Little Things that Kill, they're forever changing the Hops in each batch but yet to have a bad one.

Also agree the Kernel stuff is consistently good:)

Weird Beard produce exceptional beers - if you like light citra pilsner get your hands on Faceless Spreadsheet Ninja. Sublime. If you like Black IPA (on which i have based my own recipe on) try their Something Something Dark Side - just the best black IPA i've ever had...

Kernel are pretty good too i suppose
