I brewed a couple of kits and thought they were ok - unremarkable but quite drinkable.
I joined this forum and learnt about spraymalt and improving kits.
I brewed a couple more kits and the results were better, but still a bit watery and lacking in body.
I did my homework, asked stupid questions, built a boiler and mash tun and crossed over to the dark side.

I still have quite a few bottles of those kit brews left down the cellar, they get used when cooking brisket or steak & ale pies.

I rarely drink in pubs now and am usually disappointed when I do.
Supermarket wine or beer purchased this year: Nil.

I started as a kit brewer many years ago and came back to kits a few years ago and thought they were now the dogs danglies then tried AG. Went back once when house was a building site, never again. It might take a few more hours to brew but equate those to the extra pleasure I get drinking and by heck 'tis gorgous. Only a few pubs I have been in serve better beer and the £115 I just shelled out will brew me in excess of 640 pints thats 18p a pint (I went for liquid yeasts this time).

Oh and then there is the tinkering and bodging that you get to do, all in the name of beer, a fine hobby and one that rewards before you do it (making stuff), whilst doing it (brewing stuff) and after doing it (drinking stuff) ok I hate cleaning up but I am normaly a few sheets to the wind by then anyhow.

I started with kits always fancied AG but was never brave enough then i got involved in this forum found out just how helpful these guys are and how easy it is to do done 3 now and a couple of turbo ciders tomato wine now having a bash at a tropical fruit flavoured wine Ill never go back to kits
