it was 15% for just one day I dont understand why people keep focusing on that it didnt effect anyones mortgage it was too short for the companys to react properly. but if you had saving you were laughing in those days, now if you got savings you are buggerd cant even get a decent rate , but borrow and your stuffed no parity at all, Lent at 6% and save at 2%( if your lucky)

Not going to go in to who's right thing UP as I totally respect your opinions, but I believe this is worldwide banking phenomenon.
I tell you what scares me though is that this country has no manufacturing industry to earn the profit and escape this downfall. Steel in kaput, we import coal FFS and our car industry is Japanese.

our biggest earner is actually the Queen, and tourism
we got some engeniring left but its for small one off like formular 1 car parts
we got downgraded for AAA with our banking so we got not much hope of recovery ,so get that allotment and start growing your own food NOW

60million to feed from tourism, think I better tear up the marigolds and plant some veggies ;)

What I really want is for those crooks to give us a level playing field . . . . Have the Balls to put a 'None Of the Above' on the ballot form and lets find out what the country really wants.

Biggest problem is public services waste too much in bureaucracy, and private companies, while lean, are out to give shareholders increasing profits. . . These Crooks have non executive directorships (which don't have to be declared) on many of the big companies boards for when they don't get into power, which is why they haven't said . . . "Fine Pay obscene bonuses . .. but if you do 75% of your profit for that year is going to pay back the loan we gave you when you were in trouble" . . . . And has anyone noticed the 15% increase in petrol prices this last 9 months? . . . The price of crude oil has fallen massively over the same period so how is that explained? . . . Don't tell me that they are working through the massive stockpile they bought when crude oil was very expensive so can't pass on the reduction . . . They didn't have any stocks when the price of crude oil went up

Just wish I had enough space for a Biodiesel rig

Unfortunately the price of oil is listed in dollars, which for us is a moving target. The collapse in oil prices was associated with a collapse in the pound against the dollar.

If you look at before the silliness (oil price spike, which wasn't passed on to us - petrol didn't double in price) and after it you get:

mid 2007: oil price $70-80, dollar price $2 giving £35-40 per barrel
now: oil price $70-80, dollar price $1.50 giving £47-53 per barrel - a 30% increase

Look at the 5 year graphs for oil price and exchange rate (change the period in the tab at the side)

The oil companies make their billions in profit, but that hasn't changed in the last few years - that profit comes out of our pocket. As a monopoly they can effectively charge what they want :x

I find it amazing that petrol is so cheap

Drilled, pumped out of the ground, transported a couple of thousand miles, refined, transported again and sold to us cheaper than many bottled waters....amazing

I think we may have to go back to using browns gas for our cars ( lots of info on it on youtube ect)
as for hydrogen thats a few years off and whos to say the oil companys dont just burry it like thay have done with every other new form of energy that governments cant see a way to tax properly.

Something I cant understand is why the torys are loosing ground in the polls to labour

as an aside did you know that gordon brown added over 10,000 pages to undertanding of tax laws when chancelor standars write up

front page ot today telegraph about tony blair dodging UK tax on the tens of millions that he earns.
now then can you imagine maggie thatcher doing that? ( yes I hate her too but she wasnt dishonest just a *****)
makes you wonder . All the mps just feather thier own nest and wait till time comes to get on the gravey train that is advising buisness. think it might be time to get the secrecy lifted on the house of commons and get all thier wrong doing published with no restrictions. the home office and all the other whitehall mandrins all get knighthoods thats what they do the job for why dont the mps just do that . I know that the whithall mob are also no good just the same as the unelected brussels lot running us , I think yes minsiter and its folow up got it pretty spot on but I think the pm has a bit more power than they protrayed but gordon brown changed that in his dept as chancellor .
