Airlock query

Hi guys,

Sorry to start with the daft questions so soon! I'm currently brewing my first ever brews from two kits I kicked off on Sunday. I woke up this morning to the satisfying noise of the airlock bubbling away which was a relief as after 30 hours there was no sign of action.

Anyway, I am aware that they are not a necessity and do not always work as they should but its a reassuring sign for a first time brewer like myself. Anyway my query is why the water is sitting mostly to one side of the airlock in both my FV's and what it means if anything?

It's a good sign, it means there's outward pressure (ie, CO2 being created and pushing out)

It's also a good sign as it means you have a good seal on the FV

I'm getting a shed soon so I'll be able to have a rolling production

Touche! I currently have room for two in the house but have a double garage and am already thinking of constructing something capable of holding around 4 fv's. Possibly an insulated chipboard container, with a hinged lid using a green house tubular heater and thermostat.. Probably getting ahead of myself but a rolling production would be ideal!

Its not the FVs that you should worry about, I have accumulated three and, currently, only use one at any time - and it will probably stay that way.

The trick is to have enough bottles / kegs to keep you satisfied (and the more you make, the better you can mature your drink. Ie, by the time you come to start drinking it's had 3/4 months of conditioning which is remarkably better tasting than 2 weeks )
