just emptied out the first small polypin and gave it a smell and couldn't stand the smell was like strong solvents or something. I think I might have dropped a bollock and wasted my first ag brew, the polypins where new and I only sterilised it I didn't clean them or anything incase there was a plastic taste. what should I do with the other new pins before using them.

for me i soak in warm water and bleach it overnight if bad , usually get rid of everything . Remember to wash bleach away with warm water many times.

I don't think its the bags causing the problem, I poured some straight from the pin into 1 glass then poured a bit through the beer engine and the difference is 100x better from the bag. a lot clearer and better colour, taste and smell. im going to disconnect the homemade chiller and go from bag straight to beer engine and see what that comes out like and if the same the problem is in the beer engine it self.
the chiller is a 10mm copper coil which was new and had line cleaner and a good rinse before using, would this be a problem?
also when I stripped the engine down to clean and service I replaced 2 o rings with normal o rings from a local tubes and fittings place, not sure if the o rings could be the problem but read over on jims forum other people had replaced with o rings from b and q etc without problems. when rebuilding the engine I gave all rubber o rings that come into contact with the beer a light smear of cooking oil to lubricate and all the others that don't contact the beer I used Vaseline. I thought the cooking oil wouldn't cause a problem and would just lube the seals up a bit and any residue would be cleaned off when pulling line cleaner through.
