Does anyone know if the "Little Bottler" will connect to the tap on the Woodford's Barrel ? or do i have to remove the tap on the barrel and replace with the bottler ?

Hi DX4100,

I'm like you in that I have just started brewing, and put my 2nd kit on at the weekend. I bought myself a Coopers Microbrewery which is a slightly modified version of the one in your link (what I can gather the only difference is that it has a slightly different fermentor).

The 1st batch I made with this was a Coopers Aussie lager and for a first go I was very pleased. I used the plastic PET bottles and the Coopers Carbonation drops that came with the kit and it worked out great. To sterelise my bottles is made up a solution of VWP and then rinsed each bottle a few times with cold water.

I try and buy the kits and stuff from my local homebrew shop but if I do buy online i use this site

http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/

I bought the microbrewery kit from them and they were very quick to deliver and their postage was only £6 to Orkney which I thought was good, one shop in Edinburgh was going to charge me £20 to send the same thing.

All the best.

you'll need some brew kit enhancer at an aditional £4 for the coopers i think

That is cheap, would you mind telling me where you get brew enhancer from at that price?

Cheers

I think i got a pack from Morrisons for about 3.99, but can't remember, but my LHBS do their own for under £4

Admittedly you'd have to pay postage, but for me it is only a slight detour on the way home from work.

I didn't get a reply to this question so wanted to answer for the sake of anyone's using the search...

The Woodfords kit is actually a youngs kit... The barrel you get with the kit allows you to change the tap on it as a direct swap for the tap you get in the little bottler. You just unscrew the one that come swith it and screw in the little bottler one. Simples.

Why do I need this ? What does it do ?

It is better than just using sugar as it conatins malt extract. Sugar just ferments to alcohol thus not adding anything to the flavour. Malt extract contains a certain amount of non fermentables which adds flavour and body to the beer. Also kits already contain a certain amount of sugar. The better kits are the 'two can' kits which only contain malt and no sugar.

Cheers for that...

To summarise...

If I am using a two can premium kit like the Woodfords Wherry which has a tin of malt extract I don't need to use these Brew Enhancers ?

But if I am using the cheaper one tin options I have the choice of using, in a sliding scale (one being worse, three being best) ...

1, Sugar
2, Brew Enhancer
3, Malt Extract

Are Brew Enhancers / Sugars the same thing packaged differently ?

You could maybe add to your list
1. Household Sugar
2. Brewing Sugar (supposed to be easier for the yeast)
3. Brew Enhancer
4. Dried Malt Extract or canned malt extract

Brew Enhancer is just a blend of brewing sugar and dried malt extract
