I don't know if this is the correct place to ask but here goes.

I have been trying to get some demijohns from freecycle to no avail and looking round it seems a lot of the online brew shops sell "plastic demijohns" which look suspiciously like the 80p bottles of water from the supermarket.

So my question is can I just use the water bottles? If yes how do I fit an airlock? Can I buy the caps they homebrew shops use from anywhere or is there an alternative?

Thanks

Hi,
This should help viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4956

I just drilled a hole in the top of the bottle and then fitted a grommet like you would use on a car bulkhead or electrical eqpt. not sure of the size but its quite small and then the airlock.
So far no problems.

Yep no worries. Easy, cheap and convenient. Just don't use them for too many brews ;)
