I may be wrong but dont they harvest them in autumn about sept then you start to see them in the shops Dec/Jan?

Yeah that's about right. The main hop distributors are finalising hop contracts to Brewers in the next few months based on the forecast harvests that are coming out now. I think Hop cones should be arriving at brew shops Nov with pellets man time.

Could be the Antipodean harvest? Presume that's now finished? Or the US is typically a bit earlier than Europe IIRC so they could be basing it on the condition of the crop a month or so away from harvest?

It seems best to buy hops at the experimental stage, before they really hit popularity (like citra). Anyway hopefully some of the savings will be passed on to the little guys :smile:

The article wasn't the about the Antipodean harvest, in fact, it says

One which is having a tough 2016 is Australia. Key hop farms in Victoria were hit by an unprecedented hail storm in December, and production is down by almost 40 per cent to 750 tonnes, according to the IHGC.

Seems a bit of a non-story, even the article admits a lot can change between now and the harvest (only takes one hailstorm like Oz).
