We have a respect for life because we are so called "civilised" even if at the end of the day we are still just another breed of animal. Look at animals in the wild they have no such civilised thoughts of putting other species before themselves and they kill to survive. No need for cruelty but if the animal if dead then why not use all the parts of it.

agree totally. The more parts used the better!

maybe if you use those £5 notes to make a donation to an animal charity or to buy vegetables the 'badness' of the £5 is cancelled out :hmm:

I am willing to accept as many "bad" £5 notes and all the bad Karma that goes with them, feel free to bundle them up and I will gladly accept them , I won't even charge for taking this risk!

I often lie awake at night wondering whether the poor bleeding heart liberals will find something new to be outraged about. After all, there's so much wailing, gnashing of teeth and petty miserable sacrifice that they've yet to try and foist on the rest of us. Every morning when I rise I'm pleased to see they have another high horse to prance around on, displaying to all and sundry that deep down, under their pale and flacid skin, they really are torn apart with anguish due to the violations of modern day life.

Then I go and chuck a few old car batteries in the stream...

You can please some of the people some of the time....I want my fivers to be made of cows....tenners from pigs and twenties from chickens...fifties should be something expensive like ostriches or those saltwater crocodiles...what about hundreds....something rare would do...pandas!
What about a compromise. ...all coins could be cut from carrots,leeks..any long veg.

Cheers

Clint

That may be the case, but try living without any animal product.

My wife was vegan, then veggie and now fishatarian. I definitely would bet anyone to say they were animal product free was kidding them self on.

Christ even the oil/ gas we heat our homes with is made from decomposed million year old animals and plants.

I'm not saying it's easy to be a vegan, but if your committed to it, mostly there are alternatives. I'm pescatarian (fishatarian) too, and I have no intention of imposing my choices on anyone else but as I say you HAVE to use money in our society. Surely they could have come up with non animal product notes, after all, how long have we had notes in this country which dont have animal products in them.

Debit/Credit cards and £1 coins?

You'd be surprised how many people dont have a bank account in this country let alone debit/credit cards, and you know it's gonna be a massive PITA asking for your change in coins all the time.
But overall I agree here. If I was a vegan I wouldnt go making a big song and dance about it and getting petitions going, I just wouldnt accept a £5 if someone offered me one and ask for change.
For me the point is 'choice'. If I choose to be vegan then I have to make compremises like haveing lots of change rattling around in my pocket. It would be a different matter if I had zero alternative than to use the £5, and had no choice at all

...but have they? I agree to some extent that perhaps it should be declared. As for avoiding animal products. ...only one type of vegan car tyre..Michelin. Not unless you get a flintstone car!

Cheers

However, I cannot understand the logic of removing all kinds of animal and fish products from our diets because humans are omnivores.

With our teeth and digestive system we are designed to eat almost any form of food which is why we have incisors (for cutting), canines (for ripping) and molars (for grinding).

Plenty of people do it for ethical reasons rather than logic (or religious) reasons

What has your wife got against the poor fish?

Pescetarian is what your wife now is, just to save your hide when you say fishatarian and she gives you a slap like mine.

I couldnt have written that better myself lol:grin::grin::thumb::thumb:

I'd noticed that the mint has taken notice and are seeking an alternative vegan friendly note. Better be better than the £50 a fiver I was getting on ebay  from the far east.

Seriously though, there wasn't a need for a plastic polymer that had animal byproducts in, all I can say is welsh mint. There's plenty of alternatives out there, even though I'd like a pork sctraching in every food stuff

Im sure as an apprentice electrician we used tallow for cutting pipe, is this the same product?
There must be a claim in there somewhere

Especially considering there are a ton of pakistani and indians in the UK, are they using haram pig or holy cow? I find it very strange that they even opted for using animal products, not from an animal rights perspective but more due to the ****load of religious oriented complaints you would be getting, possibly forcing the country to design and produce a whole new note (which will run the UK quite some pesos)

Many of the "won't eat xxx" brigade, especially those who rely on "ethics", don't seem to understand where many products actually come from.

I particularly like the ones who won't eat meat but happily tuck into dairy products like cheese and butter.

Apparently, they don't wish to kill and eat the cow ... :nono: :nono: :nono:

... but they don't mind if the calf starves to death 'cos all Mum's milk has gone to make cheese & butter!

Funny old world innit?

To be fair the wife does it because she just doesn't like the taste/smell of red meat.

It became a bit of a sticky point in our home when we had kids.
