what happened to the chat page?

Is the PM system still dodgy too? I've been trying to PM you Joe and it won't let me.

    Doesn't appear to be fermenting!

Panic over - I got in last night and it was going like the clappers. Took it 56 hours to show any signs though!!! On a different note, it seems awfully quiet on here at he minute - have loads jumped ship?

    Could FG be 1020?

I made a Brewferm with dark DME and that stuck at 1020 for a few days too. Gave it a bit of a swirl and warm up and it moved off again but only settled at 1016 and wouldn't budge from there. I bottled it about a 2 months ago and even though it's a Breferm and everyone reckons it'll need...

    Doesn't appear to be fermenting!

I completed AG#3 and pitched my yeast into it over 48hours ago now and there is just no sign of any activity - no krausen and no airlock activity. It's a Southern Brown Ale with OG 1038 and the yeast is a Wyeast SmackPack 1099 Whitbread. He pack swelled slightly but not loads and I pitched...

    Fruit Syrup And Priming

Afternoon Wise Ones. May I pick your brains again? I have a Brewferm Framboos ready to bottle for SWMBO (I may partake of a few myself) but it simply doesn't have enough fruit flavour to it. I have a bottle of Alcoferm raspberry extract and plan to gradually add small amounts to a 500ml bottle...

    extract brewing.

The BrewUK extract kits start off at about £18 so are cheaper than a premium 2 can kit. Just the extra gas usage to factor in but that'll be buttons.

    It Looks Like Phlegm!!!!

Cheers for the responses folks. Sorry, I completely forgot to take a pic but you've set my mind to rest. I'll make sure my chiller is finished for the next brew!

    It Looks Like Phlegm!!!!

Last night I made brew #6 which was my first AG - an Old Peculiar clone. My chiller isn't built yet (I should have waited but I'm impatient) so I poured the boiled wort into a sanitised FV, sealed the lid on it and left it in a sink of ice water overnight. It's at the right temperature now but...

    Suggest A Yeast

Evening all. I'm sat her enjoying a glass of my first extract brew - an Old Speckled Hen clone - and I'm considering my planned brews when I'm ventruring over to the dark side with my new AG setup. I have all the grains and hops for several planned brews and most of the yeast. However, I need...

What will be your next three brews?

I've done some bulk buying from the sponsors and have the ingredients for quite a lot of brews. The following are all planned but in no particular order; Brewferm Framboise Pilsner using Saaz (extract) Wheat Beer (AG) Southern English Brown (AG) Sweet Velvet Stout (AG)

    Is it done?

I used 1kg of dark DME. Maybe my lower end FV volume markings aren't particularly accurate and I didn't add as much water as intended. 1006 is really low, I'm surprised it went that far - how did it turn out? I think the leaving it alone for a bit sounds like a good plan.

    Is it done?

I've got couple of brews on the go at the minute, one of which is a kit - a Brewferm Oud Vlaams Brun. This has a suggested OG of 1060 with a 6% abv suggesting an FG of about 1015ish? I used more fermentables than suggested and got an OG of 1072 (didn't think I'd used that much more). The brew...

What spraymalt (DME) colour to use?

I can't really comment on difference light spray malt would make to this kit but I made one up last year using 1k dark spray malt, 500g demerera sugar and some fresh coffee (made wih cold water to prevent bitterness) - got to say that it turned out much better than I had hoped. Really dark with...

    Is it possible?

Sorry, should have been a little clearer - I've got a few kilos of crushed wheat malt and was hoping to use that.

    Is it possible?

I got a few brews ready for Christmas and one in the FV but fancy a wheat beer and believe they're quick conditioning. I've got a load of ingredients but no wheat extract so can anyone answer the following; 1. Can I make a decent wheat extract brew with light or dark DME (I bought quite a...

    Bottling buckets

I'm only new to this myself but I just got a standard starting kit for cheap as chips and then bought an extra FV with a tap and little bottler attached - it came to about an additional £15. I just syphon from my FV into my bottling bucket, leaving all the crud behind and batch prime the...

    Wilko's Dark Velvet Stout

Well this had well over two weeks in the FV and has now had about ten days in the bottle - it's absolutely lovely. It's not holding it's head very well as its not had long in the bottle bu taste wise, I'm very impressed and will be making this one again.

How Do I Work this Out

Thanks for the responses folks. I'll give that a try with the oven - hadn't even thought of that before. I'll bung all the DME in as well then and probably go for the extra ABV option. Cheers.

How Do I Work this Out

Either Thursday or Friday, I'm having a go at a lager. I currently have a Wilko Cerveza, bought on a whim as it was cheap, but don't want to waste my brewing and bottling time on something pretty tasteless and would rather experiment, even if this means ballsing up. I'm going to steep 500g...
