Airlocks! Is there really a difference?

I wouldn't have thought so i presume that they are all for the same thing (i.e allowing co2 to escape and not allowing air in) :wha: ive used several different types and haven't noticed any difference. :thumb:

    Carbonation question/issue

I currently have a batch of TC going and i think i'd like to go down the juice route for carbonation/flavour. :hmm: My question is how much AJ to add per 500ml or to the 1 gallon batch? As the sugar from the juice will ferment i'm presuming that i will also need to back sweeten with Splenda...

I've been reading these Tea wine threads with interest. I've purchased my cheap tea bags from Tescos and will be starting a batch of this this weekend.

In the absence of cider yeast?

Marrsy, I'm going to be bottling my Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Delight over the weekend, do you think i would i be able to add finings to assist in the clearing process ?

    Bottle Rinser Steriliser?

Ah, i see, thanks Wendy :thumb: It is a bit of a pain having to rinse everything off all the time, i'm sure my next water bill will have me looking for an alternative!

    Bottle Rinser Steriliser?

Looking at all these different sterilisers has got me worried now. :wha: Ive been using baby bottle steriliser liquid from Tescos. No problems yet, but am i dicing with death?! Has anyone had any bad experiences using this (i'm presuming) cheaper option?

In the absence of cider yeast?

I couldn't really say as ive never used Champagne Yeast before. All my TC's have Super wine yeast as i haven't got around to having different yeasts yet. I'm sure that will come in time! This is Dave by the way....not Marrsy! ;)

In the absence of cider yeast?

I used Super Wine Yeast for mine and its ok so far!

    Cheeky Vimto

I'm no expert but that might be the problem. I would guess that a tablespoon may be too much but i'm not sure how else it will affect your brew. Maybe someone a little more experienced could advise? :thumb: Have you tasted it? Mine tastes fine so i wouldnt sling it just yet!

    Cheeky Vimto

Yeah, froth all the way through, even when it was slowing down. Its been in the secondary since Saturday minus the froth so we'll see if it clears or not. Marrsy, could i add finnings to assist in clearing? :?: Did you add a teaspoon or a tablespoon of yeast?
  19. Davey H

    Cheeky Vimto

Mine had a frth that never disappeared. Marrsy had suggested that i may not have boiled the Vimto enough which makes sense. It still tastes lovely so i chose to let it ferment out and have now transferred it to a secondary to get rid of the **** on top. I'll check it again maybe...
