    I will be watching this with interest as I love red wine. I still think the one you have with the dried fruit in would give you a bit more body like a merlot. Thats what we red drinkers want, a heavy boddied wine like a port wine but that would take longer to mature and i am not very patient...

    Cork problems, shooting their load!!

    On this subject what would be the best (cheap) corker to use. I bought a hand corker at wilkinsons and had a dummy run with it but the cork wont go in i want to cork if giving a wine gift. Im gonna ask friend to save their screw tops for me. I have enough bottles at the mo.

    Best of luck with it. I will get another sometime and a trial jar so if that happens again all of the wine isnt ruinedbut just to get it right i suppose readings are the way forward. I wonder why it cracked, the wine was not hot.

    Well sterilised everything then locked myself in the kitchen like some mad scientist wifey. gathered all the stuff together put it in the jar easy enough.......then i read i needed a reading so the hydrometer thingy didnt come with a trial jar so i stuck it in the dj it floated ok didnt know...
