wurzel wine disaster help me!!!!

Well sterilised everything then locked myself in the kitchen like some mad scientist wifey. gathered all the stuff together put it in the jar easy enough.......then i read i needed a reading so the hydrometer thingy didnt come with a trial jar so i stuck it in the dj it floated ok didnt know how to read it so decided to take it out the thing has cracked and the contents now in the wine.......I emptied it into a clean container and there is litle black things that look like metal balls in the bottom oh well try again tomorow after all tommorow is another day the mix was just warm not hot oh well

pot luck is the way i've been going for a year with good enough results. I'm about to take my first ever hydrometer recording tomorrow!

Best of luck with it. I will get another sometime and a trial jar so if that happens again all of the wine isnt ruinedbut just to get it right i suppose readings are the way forward. I wonder why it cracked, the wine was not hot.

Did you drop it in or lower it gently? If you'd dropped it, it could have shot all the way down and hit the bottom of the DJ.
