    Sloe Gin time

I've got my first ever 2 litres on the go. The 5 litre water bottles are perfect for 2kg of fruit and 2 litres of gin. I used 'middle of the road' gin from Sain$burys....£13 IIRC. I've never seen so many sloes on the trees this year.....the patch that I found were absolutely rammed and I...

    solar pumps

I considered using one of those Maplin controllers. In the end I managed to get an old Hornby train set controller off the well know auction site......only used it once so far, but it seemed to work well.

Ghent or Bruges, where should I go?

I've travelled quite a lot around Belgium with business. I think Brugges is better than Ghent personally and certainly from a beer and bars point of view. Both are nice places, but I prefer Brugges.

    pump control vales

Darcey, From what I know, you just control the flow using the by-pass loop and opening the ball valve. I think the controller would try and slow the pump down and I'm not sure if it would like that. One of the resident engineer peeps will no doubt be able to add more to this. Are you just going...

    pump control vales

By pass loop - a t-junction just after the pump output. One leg recirculates back to the input and the other goes to the ball valve. The extent to which you open the ball valve governs what comes through and what gets recirculated back to the input.

    AG# 5. Effin' Erdinger!

I personally think it contibutes more to the flavour charachteristics than 60%. Looks a nice glass that though Darcey, though I'm not a fan of wheat beer myself :)

    pump control vales

I'm not an expert.....but IIRC they do not like a restriction on the input. You can restrict the output using a by-pass loop and a ball valve.

    Potential Disaster....opinions/advice please

Thanks for your replies folks. I feel a little better now knowing that others have done it and seemingly gotten away with it. I will let you know how I get on. I have though made a promise to myself that I will fit taps to the bottom of every fermenter that I have so I can just attach a line a...

    BrewDog.. how anoying are they.....?

They are damnned annoying. Firstly I am finding it very hard to replicate Punk IPA (though have had a lot of fun trying) and secondly the 330ml lady-bottles really annoy me

    Potential Disaster....opinions/advice please

Hi....I'm fuming with myself  I would welcome some advice or opinion. Syphoning 20 litres of beer (to get it off the cold break and yeast) tonight that I'd crash cooled. I lost the syphon effect at about 15 litres and had to restart it....drew beer in to my mouth and the reflex action...

    AG#5 Evaporation Loss !!

The lid should be removed so that the boil can drive off DMS. DMS tastes like cabbages apparently.

    Sparging question.

I used to fly sparge but now I batch sparge. I find batch sparging much quicker :)

    russian imperial stout

I made some using Alemans recipe in May 2010. I've tested 6 or 7 bottles (330ml) so far; really just to see how the beer ages. The first couple I tried in May of this year and it was pretty undrinkable due to the enormous hop inclusion. It certainly has promise though, and the last couple I've...

    Ghosts

My mum and dad used to own a pub on the outskirts of Barnsley. I used to look after it when they went on holiday. Both myself and my dad could sense a 'presence' in the cellar. I've also seen a couple of glasses fly off the shelf......not topple and fall. Also, numerous times I heard internal...

    priming sugar

If I need to prime bottles I use 5ml of sugar solution for each bottle. So, if I'm doing 40 bottles I dissolve the sugar required in to 200ml of water and then dose each bottle with 5ml from a 20ml syringe (4 bottles per syringe). It's difficult to measure repeatedly the exact same amount of...

Thanks for the kind welcome back :) We've called him Isaac abey. What do you mean by soon corby......it already has. And yes, I hope very much he will be following in my brewing footsteps.....I will need someone to help me when I'm too old and knackered to get a brew on. I am determined to brew...
