    AIR LOCK NOT BUBBLING

Some take more pressure to make them bubble and if you have a place in the lid that offers less resistance then it'll go outta the lid. Which ever route offers the least resistance in other words. Which type are you trying, 'top hat' shape or '6 bubble' shape ?

    Newbie advice

Wilkos have a few things and sometimes have some good deals. As others have said, leave for 2 weeks in the FV and if you find it stops bubbling at the 3 day point, give it a very gentle stir. One thing I discovered eventually, is that you get clearer beer if you siphon your beer (at 14 days)...

    Which Boiler to Buy?

I've just done my 2nd extract brew and what I've got and the method I use, seem to work OK. I use a 22 litre alloy pot in which I boil about 13 Litres of water (on the gas ring). I also boil 2 litres in a separate pan and in this I steep my grain, I add this 2 litres to my 13 litres add the...

St Peters Ruby Red Ale review

The temp right now is just about perfect indoors. You should aim to keep it as close to 18c as you can manage ;)

    Weekend brewing

TBH, when your competing for a kitchen, weekend brewing is a dangerous game, much better is plan a week day, clean the kitchen (that'll go down well anytime) brew, clean again, cook dinner, get several brownie points and have an easy life. Pjam, mouse and dogs body.

Novice help required please – Woodfordes kit

Yes, hydrometer is a must. I wouldn't splosh though, a gentle stir is OK but you shouldn't slash.

    Speciality Grain - Why?

Yes, my brew with crystal does have a sweetness to it and it does suit (beginners luck probably) Tis a learning process and I'll no doubt make some less than brilliant beer sometimes, you guys are giving me a step-up though which is great  Hmmmmmmm I fancy a ham sandwich with...

    Speciality Grain - Why?

Using and understanding these grain then, seems like another good step toward full AG. Must admit, I did take note of the marked difference between the Crystal malt I used last time and the Carapils I used today. Baby steps for me but I'm loving it :D

    Speciality Grain - Why?

Great info as always Noby :hat: My first one is already really moreish and it's not even out of the secondary! The brew with the carapils will be something to look forward to I think :) Any other grains I could try for my third? I'm keen to keep things bright, light and fresh...

    Speciality Grain - Why?

Really showing myself up here  I used Crystal malt in my first extract brew and now carapils in my second ........ but why? Are they for sugar? or flavour, or aroma, or colour? :?:

Yep. Patience Patience Patience :) Though the Woodfordes kits often need a gentle stir after about 4 days in.

    Back to the tins...

The last kit I did (just started extract) was the Muntons Midas. After the Wherry it was really nice. Cleared nicely and and very little twang. Drinking one right now and it's OK :thumb:

    Spent hops and Spent Grain

I've been wondering if hops used for dry hoping had anything left in them for bittering?
