Any body out there ever had an air lock that doesnt bubble?

I have one that i bought from Wilkinsons, and one from my local shop which is a Youngs, and the Wilkinsons bubbles!

Any thoughts appreciated.

Some take more pressure to make them bubble and if you have a place in the lid that offers less resistance then it'll go outta the lid. Which ever route offers the least resistance in other words.

Which type are you trying, 'top hat' shape or '6 bubble' shape ?

Everyone who has ever used one on a bucket-type fermenter has had them not bubble.

If you want the science...

Different designs of airlock need different pressures to force the bubble out. One with more resistance might just be over the threshold where it's easier for the gas to escape from the bucket lid seal where another may be just under.

It doesn't really matter.

 has anyone ever seen Pjam and me in the same room at the same time... no?

He giveth good airlock knowledge...

Bubble shape pjam, strange phenomenon it is hahaha.

Its all good tho :thumb:

Cheers guys

I put a couple of full 2L water bottles on top of the FV lid. This seems to seal the lid well enough so that gas must escape through the airlock.

If there's foam then it's fermenting but I must admit ....... I do like the bubblin airlock, I'm like a child and can watch it for ages

You can reduce the pressure by have less water in the airlock ..... if you put too much water in my 'tophat' air lock it'll blow the lid off!

It doesn't matter how much you make, the novelty doesn't wear off and it's still reassuring to hear one popping away.

I started 15 litres of juice wine on Saturday, it's behind my sofa as I'm writing this, I could hear it fizzing but the airlock wasn't popping, so I've just checked the seal and pushed the trap a bit further into the bung and now it's running around 3 pops per second :D
