I always said I wouldn't ever completely turn my back on kit beer...

...turns out that newborns really f**k up your brewing!!!

So I'm going to get two or three kits on just to fill some kegs and buy me some time.

Candidates are:

Muntons Midas Touch dry hopped with EKG.
Better Brew IPA dry hopped with tons of chinook
A stout of some kind
One of the Ritchie's festival kits as the porter was excellent.

Ho hum...

I thought that this one was easy and you would have a brew on by now

I have had a couple of bottles of a Brewferm Abbey, by far the best kit beer i have had in a long time really good. :thumb: :thumb: Brewed by a new brewer i was really surprised at how well it tasted, I would have thought it was an AG to be honest.

The last kit I did (just started extract) was the Muntons Midas. After the Wherry it was really nice. Cleared nicely and and very little twang.

Drinking one right now and it's OK :thumb:

Easier...

I have a slightly ulterior motive in getting the kegs filled and the dispensary set up too. Maybe... ;)

I did it not long before I went AG and i found it very moreish, didn't last long at all!!

I have just made up the Muntons Midas Touch, it's currently trying to blow the lid off in the front room, have you got any suggestions what to dry hop it with for a clean, fresh hoppy taste?

when to add them and how long for?

TBB - East Kent Goldings for the Midas Touch. About 40g should do it.

I went with the Midas Touch, Milestone Black Pearl for the stout and a Ritchies Festival Father Hooks Best Bitter in the end.

A fairly recent AG graduate, I've still got another Wherry and a Brewferm Wit fighting for space with some Maris Otter, Munich, pilsner and other grains.

The two previous Wherries I did last year (dry hopped with 40g EKG pellets, 21.5L and some Gervin added) were my favourite kits. Tasted surprisingly like Bengal lancer, albeit less ABV.

They're ready to dispatch, the first time four weeks pass without time for a full brew.

Totally get the newborn thing - my brewery went into hibernation after Scarlett was born, and even then I've only had three brews through it (albeit each one was 8 gallons!)

On the plus side - she's coming up three now and after being knocked off my motorbike twice in under two years, the wife has banned me from having another one, with the sweetener that I can brew more and invest in my brewery a bit, so stainless steel fully pumped HERMS system here I come!

Wassail!

(ps: just don't tell her I have two pre 1967 British trials bikes stashed at my parents!!)

Ha! I was hoping to get a brew on when Ruairidh was three weeks! Damn sure I'm going to get one on before he's three months though...

Is your little 'un living up to her (brilliant, if I may say) name? By rights she should be a proper little handful. :thumb:

Very much so, she's a little villain! Not three yet but she can talk the hind leg off a donkey and she knows how to use a spanner and allen key already! She was in the shed today helping me brew too, so all the signs are good! Hope you're enjoying the nipper - I miss her being that small! Once they start walking it all changes!

Tell me about it! My big one is just a smidge older than yours and she will not shut up! Even in her sleep! Takes after her mother I reckon... ;)

The wee man is brilliant, he's got the same curious look that his big sister always had so that bodes well. I'm looking forward to the alcohol rules when they're bigger... "You can have it if you brew it yourself..."

Hiya chaps, good to see a few fathers of little ones on here. I've got a little girl who is two and a bit and a lad who is nearly a month old now. My daughter is fascinated by any wine/beer she sees me making and i often (if she's not covered in chocolate or jam) let her help, pouring juice or a bit of stirring.

Start 'em young! My daughter helps with all sorts, doughing in, weighing grain and hops, fetching and carrying...

...can wait until she's big enough and strong enough to do the washing down...

She's already started the "Daddy, can I taste it?" She gets to dip a finger (de-chocolated of course) and taste. She loves real beer already!

Parenting. How to do it right. :thumb:

Indeed! Scarlett loves getting into the shed to "help out" (I use the term advisedly!) My only concern really is the propane burner, but shouldn't be a problem when we go all electric. She loves watching the bubbler traps on the wine too and likes to help out with the weighing switching on pumps and that. Can't wait to get a dedicated brew shed (won't be until we move house though and then I can plan it around having her helping out more :D

I can only get my daughter to help with sticking the labels on and even that seems to have got boring for her now. She used to love dipping a finger in beer to taste it but doesn't seem bothered any more.
