    Batch sparge advice

I normally batch sparge with a single sparge with the volume of water I need to make the boil volume. I get the volumes from brewersfriend I heat the water so that the temp hits about 75-78C when added to the mash. I stir and leave for 15mins and then lauter. That's just how I've done it...

    Suggested Inkbird Settings

I leave my differentials at 0.5C each way and have my duty cycle set to 10minutes. Without a fermenter in there the temp swings will be much higher and faster. Taping it to the side of the FV will slow the cooling and heating and I don't see much overshoot in either direction tbh. 1C...

    Fermentation temps and chamber questions

Quite a few tall freezers on ebay. The Beko seems to not have the cooling elements onthe shelves https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=freezer&_dcat=71258&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3000&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

    Fermentation temps and chamber questions

I hear ya, I wish I could have more than one fermenting at a time, but that's how it is for me right now. The jerry cans, or cubes, sound like a good idea though. Why do you need a tall fridge only? Get a tall freezer instead, the inkbird will regulate the temp so it doesn't freeze. Just make...

    Fermentation temps and chamber questions

An alternative to the blowoff tube is to build a collar for your freezer to give that extra bit of height. Not as cheap as a tube, but another option. As @JonBrew said, there are multiple advantages to having a fride/freezer, so if you can, go with that.

    Rinsing Oxi

Only trouble I had was using too much of it with hard water. It left a white residue on the bottles. I had to put a ballchain in each bottle and shake them until clean. Luckily it was a small batch, so not many bottles to do that to.

    Rinsing Oxi

I use the Oxi no-rinse from get-er-brewed atm, and I soak my bottles in a solution and then drain them on. No need to wipe. When bottling I just give them a quick rinse with starsan. If there's lots of residue I'll wash them out with water first, and then sanitise.

    Siphon Hose Condensation

I try to place mine so the openings are pointing up and hang it near a heat source over night. That way the vapour can escape out of the ends. Hanging upside down I always have condensation at the highest point. Generally come out perfectly dry.

    Imperial, Wyeast, and Whitelabs comaprison

So with The Malt Miller now stocking imperial yeast, I found this handy comparison chart for strains from different yeast labs

    Might have an infection

High temp could also be a cause. I fermented at 21C, current batch at 18C. Although it should be ok to 23C, so I don't know for sure. By farmyard, it was like farm animal hair - it just reminded me of it. I let my wife smell it as she's good with smells. I warned her not to taste it, but she...

    Might have an infection

This brew did not get better. The taste of smoke, nail varnish, and general farmyard didn't let up. I ended up dumping it and brewing the recipe again but with a single infusion this time in the mash tun. Aside from the issues I encountered on the day (all part of a learning experience) the beer...

    Show us your snow!

That was this morning. It's snowed more since. Not as much as some others here though, but still plenty for schools to close and trains to stop

Made a Firefox extension to convert units

Using python you can do that using beautifulsoup and requests. I can probably help out with that. As for gamedev, checkout Godot engine. It's like unity but free for all use.

Made a Firefox extension to convert units

I usually code in python and c/c++ but use what I need to to get stuff done. Not used R though. Can't you just scrape the recipe pages to get recipe data?

Made a Firefox extension to convert units

As it's a browser extension I'm just using plain old JavaScript. The code is here if you are interested https://github.com/Svenito/brewconvert

Made a Firefox extension to convert units

I've pushed out V1.1 to Firefox and Chrome which adds support for value ranges. Should be live soon. Let me know if there are any issues. Cheers!

Made a Firefox extension to convert units

Good idea. Seems to be quite a few ranges in recipes. I'll add it to the list. Been updating the FF and Chrome plugins recently. Still no sign of Opera reviewing the plugin though, but it will load the chrome plugin if you download it.

    Upside down tap

I'll probably just fill a bucket with some water and report back then. Probably easiest

Star San - how long does it keep?

Go to a garage or petrol station and buy deionised/distilled water. That will be perfect If you use that with Star-San it should last for months
