    All grain here we come

Great stuff, I've only done a couple of BIAB but will be moving onto a 3 vessel system soon i hope. I have the same problem and seem to be spending more on beer "for research" than I ever have before. Just a shame that craft beer is so expensive! Hopefully I can become self sufficient once...

    50 Litre Stock Pot Lid

Great Idea, I'll go home and measure the pan, hopefully it'll fit :)

    50 Litre Stock Pot Lid

Hi All, I think i've dropped a bit of a clanger. I recently purchased 3 x 50 Litre SS stock pots, some pumps and other bits and bobs ready to look at a herms system one day in the distant future. The pots I bought came with no lids though. Short of looking for lids on their own to...

    heat for brew fridge

I will be getting a greenhouse heater at some point, but seeing as I'm very challenged when it comes to anything DIY I need to wait for my father-in-law to help me build the shelf unit. At the moment I'm using a good ol' heat mat and it seems to be doing the trick pretty well. Only issue is...

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

It was carbed up quite well, which is what has me a bit worried about bottle bombs :-(

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

It was a kit that came with the BIAB stuff. I don't know the actual break down of the grain bill I'm afraid, but it was 6KG. The kit had the items below Premium Grain; Maris Otter Pale Ale , Munich, Crystal and Wheat Hops; Magnum, Cascade and Centennial Whirlfloc tablet is included...

    Wife Washed BIAB - Help.

I boiled it for a few hours on the hob, and then put it through a hot cycle in the washing machine with no detergent added. It came out as close as cat licks it's bum to normal. Time will tell because it was used for a brew, hopefully my Californian Common won't come tasting somewhat soapy

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

Well, sadly it was awful. I think I might have over primed this batch. There was still a really strong sugary sweetness that completely overpowered everything else. It didn't marry well at all with the bitterness and malt flavours that were underlying. One bottle back in the airing...

    Wife Washed BIAB - Help.

Hi all, My wife washed my BIAB bag, I know she was only trying to be helpful but it's left it with a very nice smell of washing powder/softner. Obviously I don't want this to leak into any brewing I do, It's currently being boiled to within an inch of it's life to try and get the smell...

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

Hi Chaps, So, I made a hoppy APA and it was bottled about a week ago now. It's my very first AG/BIAB and the smell from the FV and the taster I took when measuring the gravity were lush! I don't know if I'm going to be able to wait another 3 weeks. Am I on the road to disappointment if I...

    Worst commercial beer

For me it's got to be Green King IPA.... Just grim. I used to think bottles of becks had the aroma of wet dog but I haven't had one in about 15 years so not sure if that's still the case.

Liquid or Dry yeast... that is the question.

Thanks, makes life a little easier :)

Liquid or Dry yeast... that is the question.

I'm new to starters as well, looking to get one going late next week ready for a brew day on Saturday. Do you need to crash the yeast out and pour the wort off? I think I saw a video showing someone just dumping the whole lot in. I wasn't sure this was right as wouldn't it add unwanted...

    Yeast Starter Container

Hi Guys, I'm still relatively new to home brewing and am planning my 2nd BIAB session. I'm going to need to make a yeast starter for this one which will be a first for me. I have the stuff at home to build a stir plate and this is on the hit list for this weekend, but, I don't have a...

    Dry Hopping Dilemma

Hi All, I'm planning my 2nd ever BIAB, which is going to be a Punk IPA clone. One thing I've noticed over the few brews I've done previously is that when I dry hop the hops act like a sponge and I lose at least a liter to the hop gods. As you all probably know the hop bill for the punk...
