    Trump on the NHS.

Yuhp, there's a difference between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy. I understand wanting to extend the latter, which by mecessity I suppose would extend the former, but I don't want to extend the years in which I have trouble doing things for myself.

    Trump on the NHS.

The main problem the NHS faces is not caused by lack of exercise or poor diet, and particularly not by poor people. It's caused by age, which we can't do anything about, and a policy of cutting public services based on an entirely discredited study.

    The death penalty.

I agree with this. Prison is supposed to be about reform.
  4. Thumper

    The death penalty.

Nope, just debating a drunk person, though I suppose there are some similarities :laugh8: I simply disagree that something we all agree is immoral suddenly becomes moral because a sufficiently powerful person says so. But we agree on the central point here, so let's not fall out over semantics...

    What are you drinking tonight.

I was drinking Wimbledon Brewery's Copper Leaf yesterday. Its wonderful stuff. The hops are fuggle, equinox, and mosaic; so it's got a good earthy, herby base with tropical and citrus notes over the top. There's some rye spiciness in the malt base and it works really well. Its very well balanced...

    First Turbo cider

Will do mate! Oh, I should have said: SG of the juice was 1046.

Wimbledon copper leaf. Its very nice. Goes down entirely too easily... i thunk I've had 8. But it might be more.

    The death penalty.

... yuhp. Edit: I was drunk and feeling slightly facetious yesterday (sorry about that), so I thought I'd add a proper reply. Firstly, you've avoided the question. You've not logically demonstrated that they are different, you've just asserted that they are and thrown a red herring in there...
  9. Thumper

    The death penalty.

Of course I don't. What a silly question.

    The death penalty.

Perfectly understandable. My sister was raped, and to this day she won't tell me who did it because she knows I would put the bloke in hospital. It's perfectly human to want revenge, and I am human. But viewed objectively, it's not moral.
  11. Thumper

    The death penalty.

Yes it is. Logically, how is it different?
  12. Thumper

    The death penalty.

That is from the bible, though it's the old testament (the tanakh, or Hebrew bible). I'm not sure what you mean by "equates to", though? It's basically the same idea, if that's what you mean. A like-for-like punishment.
  13. Thumper

    The death penalty.

That's only an argument if you draw some arbitrary distinction between murder by the state and murder by an individual. Logically speaking, they are morally equivalent.

    What are you drinking tonight.

Just had an Anchor Steam Beer. It's very nice, malty and sweet but fairly well balanced and clean.

    Six Nations 2018

Sadly missed both of today's games as I had some life admin to do and then put a Turbo cider on. I shall be in the pub tomorrow, though!
  16. Thumper

    The death penalty.

The punishment for killing involves someone killing the person who did the killing, which is killing. It obviously contradicts itself. I agree most Christians these days would say it's a silly rule.
  17. Thumper

    First Turbo cider

So, taking a short hiatus from beer, as apparently having 92 bottles is unreasonable. So I decided to brew a turbo cider, partly to appease the Mrs as it's something she'll drink, and mostly because if I do it now it should be done in time for summer. Went with: 6l Tescos apple juice 1 mug...

    Wilco pb

Why do you want to ferment under pressure?
  19. Thumper

    The death penalty.

Nope, for so many reasons. Firstly, from a moral standpoint, if murder, i.e. killing in cold blood with malice aforethought, is wrong then it is wrong regardless of what a person has done. As much as it may be a cliche, it does make you as bad as them, regardless of how much self-righteousness...

    Rims and Herms??

I really hope not. There's nothing wrong with it, but that sort of thing should be done in the privacy of the bedroom.
