    A little clarity...

An update from my original post. I have been using a bounce filter to the fermenter to keg transfer. This pulls out the larger debris and is essential if dry hopping with leaf hops. But it is not the whole cure. Moving to leaf hops has helped a great deal. I get a much better colour and less...

Help needed with a very mild mild.

Interesting replies, I am learning a lot! In future I won't use a recipe that hasent got a base of 50% pale malt or more!

Help needed with a very mild mild.

The recipe above is a cut and past from the original so not misread I think. The grain was crushed but was quite heavy in the mash. I didn't get a stuck mash but I reckon it was a close run thing. I don't want to chuck it away so will add sugar and try to restart the fermentation. If that...

Help needed with a very mild mild.

I am brewing a mild for the first time as as sort of nostalgic brew. I used to enjoy a pint of mild on the rare occasion I could find find one when I was young and now as mild is as rare as hens teeth I thought I would have a go at making one for the benefit of the education of my grown up sons...

Picture or Video of the day.

This almost happened to a mate of mines car in about 1980. We were outside Harrods in the west end in a mini and there was sa sudden smell of petrol. We stopped and lifted the bonnet to find a broken petrol line and fuel, being sprayed over the engine.

Every car up to the early '80s. Not so many now.

I can just remember that winter. We lived on a road that was on a hill and my dad dug a trench down the road in the snow to meet the milkman who was digging a trench up the road. I remember the snow being taller than me when standing in the trench.

    Secondary regulators

John Guest fittings are very good for gas lines in my experience. The trick is not to put them under unreasonable stress round corners. See pervious post of mine using 90 degree turns so that all lines are not stressed in the push joints.

    Kegerator help

Yes, my keezer uses something similar but I had assumed that this would not be in the plan as this is a fridge and not a freezer. It may well be necessary but puts the cost up by up to £50.

    Kegerator help

One potential issue before you do the above. The top compartment, is it a freezer compartment? If it is there is no obvious door to it and so I wondered if the main door was shaped to seal the compartment when closed. If so, adding a collar would effectively break this seal and would cause...

    Tonic Water

Sounds good to me! I will give it a try. Thanks for the review.

What's the crappiest place in the UK?

The list must be England only. I once went to Rhyl in North Wales and came away feeling that part of my soul had been sucked out. It not on the list but perhaps no one has survived long enough to make a full appraisal.

What's the crappiest place in the UK?

It's all a matter of perspective. I live not far from Aldershot, no 37 on the list, and yes it's not great but it's full of army bases so it wouldn't be. One place not on the list that I would nominate is St George's Hill Woking. Its full of multi-million pound houses and completely gated off...

    Secondary regulators

I do get a whistling sound when pressuring up but it stops when the pressure is up to the required setting. However I thought it was coming from the kegs as they pressurised. It is more of a moan than a whistle.

    Tonic Water

My favourite non alcoholic drink is tonic water. I buy loads of the stuff and even pollute it with Gin on occasion. I would be very interested to hear how it compares with bottled commercial tonic.
