The rise of the middle age renter.

I'm not claiming they are acting out with the law. Simply expressing that I believe the laws should be changed to give people a right to remain in their home. There's too many have a go landlords putting people out of their homes when they decide they want the house or want to sell or whatever...

The rise of the middle age renter.

28 days is short notice! I got 54 and just managed to get out.

The rise of the middle age renter.

My family and I were turned out for no good reason. (My spoilt brat wants a house and I'm giving them your home isn't a good reason. Buy your brat a different house) My point about the property being bought as business, that business then seeking a family with young kids and a good job for the...

The rise of the middle age renter.

I'm going through all the process at the moment. I think the deposit holding scheme will rule in my favour in the end up, or certainly to an extent. But thanks for the link bigcol!

The rise of the middle age renter.

I'm in that position myself. I'm not quite middle aged (30) but I actually just got evicted last month. Been in the house 18 months absolutely no issues from either party, estate agent rocks up to the door and says you've got 2 months to move out, the owner is moving in. They "chose" me as the...

    Packaging dilemma

Never come across these polypins before! Any good?

    Free CML yeast

I put the US pale ale through a couple of batches and wasn't happy with flocculation. It was ok but I prefer it more flocculant. Got a real ale in the fv at the minute so I'll see how that goes. I have used the California common and was very happy with that. Good of you to do this though!

Help me plan my first brews (please)

If you're doing half a kit and storing the other half for 2-3 weeks, my concern would be contamination of the second half. If its a two pouch kit that's not an issue. If its a can then that may be quite tricky. You could dilute it and heat it all up in a pan to sterlise but you don't want to...

Unpacked the shopping, the next half dozen

Lubbly jubbly! Is that a week's shopping or a month's?

    The crossmyloof brewery yeast

I used one pack of us pale ale yeast, harvested and reused across two brews. Its clean and fermented well but I wasn't impressed with flocculation. It has been a bit powdery and I'm always getting yeast through to the glass. For hoppy pale ales this is undesirable, for me anyway. I don't want...

Czech Pilsner extract - steeping grains

Brewers friend has a wort dilution calculator. Stick your numbers in there and it'll tell you how much to dilute by.

    Bottom of bottle

That's just sediment and is normal. You'll be able to reduce the amount of sediment in the bottle with practice. Cold crashing and racking to a bottling bucket are the best ways of reducing it. For me anyway.

    Coopers FV modifications

It had crossed my mind. Are they quite effective? I've never used one. I take it they effectively syphon the last few litres?

Leaving a gravity sample for a week?

If it was taken pre pitching then it should give you a good indication. If however any wild yeasts or bacteria have got in and are munching the sugar, then the gravity will reduce giving you an untrue reading. I'm not too clued up on this but I believe all or nearly all wort will have some...

    Coopers FV modifications

I was going to blank the hole for the tap and do away with that. Then fit a 15mm tank connector and valve closer to the bottom. I've seen new taps for sale for a couple of quid. It's the fact that the tap is at the 5L mark, makes getting that last 5L to the bottle is a PITA. I'll come up with...

    Capper

I picked one up from the homebrew company back in December. I ordered a 40 quid model. They got in touch to say it was out of stock and I got the 20 quid model and a 20 quid refund. Brilliant job and looks identical to the 40quid one. Not sure how much a handheld is but 20 quid for a decent...

New to AG and need help batch sparging

I fly sparged for a few brews and always missed OG by a good few points. I then went to batch sparging and consistency and effeciency have improved. Usually get 75-80% effeciency. My batch sparge method is exactly the same as yours apart from some small differences. I aim for 25 to FV. So I...

    Coopers FV modifications

During my last bottling session, the top half of the valve came adrift from the bottom half. Probably an easy fix but I've decided I'm sick of it and want to put a new valve in it. The last five litres is a balancing act, resting the bucket on the worktop, balancing it on my head and trying to...

    Sterilisation no rinse

Starsan. About 2ml in a 1litre squeezy bottle. Just spray everything once it's cleaned. Very easy. I've never had any issues and a 20quid bottle will last 2 years at least.
