    Drinking songs!

We used to sing this in a folk club years ago - ah! the happy days of my youth! It is of good ale to you I’ll sing, And to good ale I’ll always cling. I like my mug filled to the brim And I’ll drink all you’d like to bring. Chorus (after each verse): Oh Good Ale, thou art my darling, Thou art...

    Hop Spider Thingy

Do you wish to use it as a hop spider in the boil, or to dry hop during fermentation? Pellet hops will swell in both cases, and dry hopping in the corny keg, won't you have to leave it in all the time - with the risk of having a 'grassy' taste after a week or so as the max dry hop time is about...

    Giving up for lent?

As I have a 75cl. bottle of Lentebier, from brewery De Glazen Toren in Erpe-Mere, Belgium, I want to try an copy it, by cultivating the yeast from the bottle - I've done this before with a bottle of Saison d'Erpe-Mere, and it made a superb beer. However I could do with a recipe for the grains &...

Suggestions for a nice pub around Bloomsbury?

Sounds like you are not too far from the British Museum - if so try the Museum Tavern, just opposite the main entrance, good food and beer. I would walk there when staying in Gower street (but I was in me 20's then) did go recently though an it was still good, and I plan to go there for lunch...

    Lucky Find

Yes - not cheap, but in Belgium, I pay about the same for a Trappist beer in most bars, after all It's not a session beer, it's a sit down and saviour the taste beer! Price in Manchester is about £5 a bottle in the bar, in Belgium (for a similar beer) between 7 to 9 euros - I'm off to there end...

    Beer leaking from corny keg

Try some PTFE tape on the post, this worked for me on a leaking connection, I assume that it's the ball lock connection that's at fault.

    Half The Desired Outcome

Try a thinner mash, I use 3.5 to 4 lit. of water per kilo of grain. Also the loss in the mash tun will be about 4 lit. for the usual (4 to 5 kilo) of grain per brew. I now mash for 90 min. drain the mash tun then dump 12 lit of water at 78c for a 10 min mash out / dunk sparge and get 70%...
