    iSpindel temperature accuracy / lag

I've found it to be accurate, at least for the purposes of monitoring the brew. You're right that there will be a slight delay as the air in the tube responds, but I think it's fine.

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

Thanks Gerald, I moved the (plastic) FV indoors virtually on top of the wifi box, and the ispindel has started updating every 5 minutes. Odd, because I have good wifi signal in the brew shed, and other small monitoring devices in there connected to the wifi directly. It's a strange one.

Fermentasaurus, Fermzilla or Fast Ferment. Which to buy?

Fermentasaurus Snub Nose arrived here yesterday evening - brew done simply to get it in and fermenting :D

    What did you brew today?

Brewed a hoppy saison last night. 3.2kg Pilsner malt 200g rice hulls 300g oat flakes 300g rye flakes 150g toasted wheat flakes 150g wheat malt Mashed 25 litres for 60 mins at 65C. Post mash was 21 litres, sparged 4 litres at 71C to bring the boil vol up to 25 litres. 60 mins boil. 10g Simcoe...

    iSpindel - digital WiFi hydrometer

My ispindel behaves somewhat strangely - works fine when sitting on the side, updates at whatever interval I set it, but as soon as it's dropped into a fermenting bucket right next to that position, it stops updating. Take it out & do a reset, it starts up and updates again. Back in the brew...

    How to make Turbo Cider.

Cider now pressurising nicely under secondary fermentation. Lalvin yeast took it down to around 1.012, so somewhere around 7%. Will let it sit under pressure for a week or so, then chill for serving.

A Newbie to All Grain - Budget Mash Kettle

I fitted one of these, meant to include the link in my original post. https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/127576-2750w-standard-kettle-element As for recirculating, I've considered doing it. I'm sure it will help to an extent, but I usually sparge instead with sufficient water to make up...

A Newbie to All Grain - Budget Mash Kettle

I bought a 30 litre fermenting bucket, and added a kettle element and temperature sensor to control the mash & boil. Very cheap initial setup, thinking it would see me through the first year or so until I figured out the basics, and I could move on to stainless kettles, etc. Seven years later...

    iSpindels

Using an app called BrewSpy. Very simple to set up and get meaningful data. Tried initially with ubidots, but it bamboozled me.

    iSpindels

Mine arrived at lunchtime today, and by 3pm it was calibrated and in a brew taking readings. Very simple setup, excellent.

Fermentasaurus, Fermzilla or Fast Ferment. Which to buy?

Giving serious thought to upgrading my fermenting setup with Fermetasaurus. Reviews I have read & seen have been good, but will be interested to see your findings Phildo. Would love to get a corny for dispensing as well, although the fermentasaurus would be a good interim setup for pressure...

What's the most extreme beer you've ever made?

I've just kegged a brew that used grains, hops and yeast that were six years past their recommended best before dates. Tastes fine and I haven't expired yet. I too am more than willing to ignore use by dates & eat anything, so long as it's not actually growing something it shouldn't be. As for...

    How to make Turbo Cider.

Went to Lidl last week & bought 12 cartons of their 1.5L apple juice, 4 litres of summer fruits juice, and 2kg dark muscovado sugar. Heated 6 litres of apple juice & dissolved the sugar in, chucked the whole thing in a fermenting bucket & pitched some Lalvin EC1118. Initial tastes were molasses...

What's your view on Plastic Pressure Barrels (PBs)?

I have two King Kegs, one with the CO2 bulb fitting, one with an S30 to take a Soda Stream CO2 bottle. Never really had problems retaining pressure. Have just ordered two complete seal kits for them, as they are a good 6-7 years old now. Would like to get into cornys in the future, but these...

    What did you brew today?

First brewday in over four years last Thursday - life has somewhat gotten in the way! Had a mixed assortment of carefully stored & sealed grains and hops still in stock, so thought I would throw together a random brew of whatever I could think of, and see how it came out. What's the worst that...

    Offered - 40+ glass 500ml bottles, Fife

Hello Taz, Unfortunately I'm working this weekend way up near Dounreay, but next weekend should be no problem if you're available? Bottles are all sitting in my garage in crates, some are washed and labels removed, others are 'as received'. You're welcome to sample the produce of my King...

    Offered - 40+ glass 500ml bottles, Fife

I have been steadily collecting glass bottles for the last couple of years, but have now moved on to King Kegs and have decided not to bother with bottling any more. Most bottles are clean and de-labeled, but there are perhaps 20 needing labels removed and a good clean. Come with two bottle...

looking for something similar to birds and the bees

It's a cracking beer, lovely fresh hoppy pale ale, perfect on a hot summer's afternoon with a BBQ. Might have a go at brewing this myself.

    AG#9 Bavarian Hefe Weizen

Slightly off topic, but where did you get your FVs? Really liking the look of those! Brewed a similar wheat beer last year, very clovey indeed.

    AG#2 - Citra IPA

Brewed this cheeky little number last weekend, save for the dry hopping. Ended up with 15 litres at 1.066, so a bit short on volume but high on gravity. Been on IPA yeast for just over a week, which has brought it down to 1.012, and still going. Tastes fantastic! Looking forward to getting it...
