    ss false bottom

I started out with a coolbox, on switching to the thermobox / FB my efficiency remained much the same (mid 70's) since using CRS I'm now at 80-83%.

304 stainless with 2mm holes. Mine sits on dome nuts so it's only about 1cm off the bottom.

    Favourite Beer Bottles

I have a bench capper so the Wychwood bottles aren't a problem, also the labels just float off so I have a fair few of those. I also have a lot of Crabbies bottles as the wife has a fondness for it. I was given loads of magners bottles, but they're boring, there's a larrge collection of other...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2012?

I have. I've done several brewday threads, I've posted threads on converting fridges, threads on making pid controllers, threads on immersion coolers, solar pumps and their power supplies. I posted a thread on my first plastic brewery and another on it's shiny replacement. Today was my 53rd AG...

    Leaf hops vs pellets

If they didn't user some method they'd end up with a fermenter full of bits of hop, and as leaf hops are bigger they're easier to filter out. Also if that's a US show they also use a method where they "whirlpool", which deposits all the muck in the middle of the boiler. Basically pellets are...

    Leaf hops vs pellets

Leaf, because they're the most readily available in this country and to use pellets you need a fine gauze hop stopper. Having made the hop stopper I've still never used pellets and I probably won't until something I want is only available in that form.

    Car enthusiasts?

I'm mortgaged with 2 young kids, so I'm doing the bangernomics thing at the moment. I've had a '99 saab 9-3 for the last 4 years... unfortunately I've started visiting the Saab forums and found out how cheaply the engine can be "tweaked". £100 got me a 50% power increase to 220bhp, I'm now...

    Crash cooling question

I do it with all my beers (except the Weisse's), I tend to leave the beer at 20 degrees for 10 days or so to ferment out, then drop it to 2 degrees for around 4 days before kegging. I've yet to have a cloudy beer and I don't use finings other than those in the boil. I do have to admit that my...

How long does bottled water stay fresh for

I tend to make up 5 litres at a time, that way you don't have to worry about it going off.

    Connoisseur TC

They claim that all their cider spends time in oak vats, the newest of which was made in 1946! I should imagine that's where it's picked up from. I really should post a couple of pictures, the apple press is a thing to behold.

I did the Westons Factory tour a few weeks ago, on asking what type of yeast they use I was told Champagne yeast.

Back to Basic's 2, Showing how easy AG is.

I'm in. But just to clarify, are we aiming for 1.046 or was that just an example?

stainess steel thermo pot mash tun

I use a 50L for 10 gallon brews so a 30 should be fine for 5G, however they're good at retaining heat so if you see yourself upping the brewlength in the future go for the 50L. I don't know if you're aware of it but these appear to be ready converted examples of the pots a lot of us bought on...

A kegerator that records your consumption

:wha: Surely half the fun of a kegerator is trying to remember just how much you drank last night?
