Pen for lableing brown glass bottles

Same but I've also got a few sheets of different coloured stickers for when I run out of cap colours, about 8mm round spots but the next time I'm in the pound shop I'll probably pick up a few sheets of star shapes instead (a la Newcie Brown).

    Prosecco bottles

Regular corks work fine, I use the same bottles for pretty much all my wine. The same kind of bottle can also be picked up fairly cheap with the none alcoholic fake wine/sparkling fruit juice stuff in Aldi, never had any issues doing fizzy wine in either.

    Bottling Day coming up

For demijohns I use washed coarse sand, it used to be common before scouring pads where invented. It would work fine for bottles, half a handful and enough water to give it a good shaking and swill around and it will scour off pretty much any stuck on grime. If the bottles are well rinsed after...

Fermenting fridge - is this OK?

You're very unlikely to hit anything important drilling a hole in the side but unplug it first regardless and put something in there to protect the cables as the edges will be sharp, a bit of tube or cut up plastic bottle would work fine. I've got a couple of Inkbirds and wouldn't hesitate to...

Fermenting fridge - is this OK?

I'd be wary of heat mats, read up on them and many have the opinion they may put too much heat into the trub and that may lead to off flavours. I use one but tape it to the inside of the fridge rather than under the FV (a tube heater would be a no-brainer imo). Also, you don't need a whole lot...

    Ball Lock Post Query

The only thing I can think of with the double o-rings is the posts have been machined to take backing rings. They're often used with high pressures, a PTFE ring behind the o-ring for a tighter fit, they stop the o-ring failing from being forced into the gap left by a clearance fit. Keg pressures...

    Prune and rhubarb wine.

I've found soda water helps with wines that didn't turn out well, a quater of a glass seems to kill most off flavours.

    Mash Out

I've always been surprised by how high my mash efficiencies turn out, 75-80% when I first started out and now 85-90% with a different pale base malt known for good efficiencies. I'd no idea what a mashout was when I started and based my BIAB stovetop method on vids with grainfather and similar...

    Corny keg questions

Opening the tap fully one of those things that's always stated in the instructions but rarely happens in practice (like changing brake fluid or gear oil in cars, should be done every few years but I've never seen it happen). Don't open it enough and it will cause issues but the flow rate is so...

When it comes to mead, is there such a thing as 'too simple'?

A friend found a couple of bottles of mead he made 3 years ago, real basic stuff, 3 jars of the cheapest honey on the supermarket shelf and an orange (ok, not mead...) and it was frickin gorgeous. I hadn't made mead because everything I'd tried before that was vile but i'd got a batch going in a...

    Homebrew set up

1500 litres a year in 2 gallon buckets, and I'm guessing he samples them all before bottling?? ;) Looks a really nice setup, any pics of the pressing side of things?

King Keg not holding pressure but no apparent leak

You can also use a bicycle tyre inflater if you fit a Schrader valve, they take the same CO2 cartridge and cost very little.

    5l mini kegs

Have there ever been any stainless versions of these minikegs? Seems like a missed opportunity if not, they're tinny and they don't weigh much empty so materials cost should be pretty low compared to professional kegging options. I'd imagine demand would be quite high, especially from comercial...

    C.D.'s Brewery.

Can you include what your water is like please? I'm hoping yours is similar to mine here, very soft with a peaty bitterness, not easy to find recipes that work well with it.

    Brew fridge advice please!

A bag of 3/8th plastic elbows off ebay sorted out my height problems, they'll fit in place of the airlock, stick a tube on the other end going to an airlock mounted somewhere convenient. That allowed enough room for a shelf of bottles carbing up, should make carbing much quicker in the winter...

    High carbonation in PET Bottles

Once as I kid I wondered how much pressure a coke bottle could take, one drill bit, an old valve off an innertube and 20 minutes later I was getting frantic with a foot pump (and 40psi after I was knackererd). I put it on a compressor and hid around a corner not long after, 120 psi... I'd made a...
