    No priming sugar.

Hi fellas, A couple of months ago when bottling I was called away and several bottles slipped into the system minus priming sugar. They taste OK and will not be thrown away, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to restore a bit of life to the bottles. Any advice appreciated.

    Scum removal.

Thanks for that prompt reply Rob. I've got a three inch cow pat on my FV tonight but I'll leave it well alone. :thumb:

    Scum removal.

In J Berry's book Home Brewed beer and Stouts he recommends the removal of the scum which forms at the top in the FV during the earlier part of the fermentation, because he states, if left the beer can become 'yeast bitten'. Anyone else have any thought on this? It does in fact mess up the...

    Bulmer's cider bottle washers.

Latest on these washers. Production ceased in 2011 and they are no longer being supplied anywhere :? Home brew shops have informed me that people from all over the country have been inquiring as to where they can be bought. It now looks like a compromise by way of making a washer by cutting...

    Bulmer's cider bottle washers.

Have approximately 50 old style Bulmer's cider bottles and need to replace the red stopper washers shown below. My own LHBC no longer supplies them. Anyone know where these can be obtained? Grateful for any advice.

    Bulmer's cider bottle washers.

Thanks Wendy and fbsf for your replies. Bulmers no longer use the washered screw tops, but there are one or two possibilities on ebay.

    Bulmer's cider bottle washers.

Many forum members own old cider bottles which they use for bottling their beer. I've had mine for 30 years or more and they and their black stoppers last forever, but unfortunately the red washers (shown) don't and my LHBS no longer supplies them. I'm wondering if anyone knows of where these...

    Yeast choice

Just picked up a couple of tins of Geordie bitter from Morrisons and have been warned not to use the supplied yeast, due to shelf life 'probs etc, and advised to buy locally or online. Can anyone give me the name of a general purpose yeast that would suit? All advice appreciated.

    Storing beer kits

I've been storing cans at room temperature for years with no problems. But in winter before opening, I always stand one on a radiator for an hour or in a pan of hot water to enable it to flow and mix more easily in the FV.

    Potencial infection?

In what way does it smell unpleasant? Well the best way to describe it is to imagine 6 Liverpool dockers who have all drunk six pints of Stella followed by a chicken vindaloo packed into a 'phone box and all simultaneously have had an attack of wind.

    Potencial infection?

Also on a similar vein my kit brew is now 10 days old and is giving of an unpleasant smell on removing the lid. It was made with tap water that was left overnight before using and had half a teaspoon of Campden powder added. Anything to worry about?

    average brewer's age

Now 77, started brewing kit beer in 1969 and have brewed it continuously to the present day ever since. Always enjoyed good health throughout the brewing years which I don't know if is down to the beer or the fact that I was road running for 36 of those years 1970/2006 and since then have used...

Has a brewbelt tainted my beer ?

Hi fellas, Interesting thread. I have a question on a similar topic. I've been given a heat pad which is not 'thermo controlled and when used would probably overheat and lead to the "off flavours" as described above. At the present time it's standing idle. Would using a timer plug during the...

    crown cappers ???

Moley/Dps/Hawks. Interesting to see that the old Bulmers bottles can still be obtained. I shouldn't think he'd have much of a problem selling them. After using mine for forty years I can vouch for their value.
