Yeast choice

Just picked up a couple of tins of Geordie bitter from Morrisons and have been warned not to use the supplied yeast, due to shelf life 'probs etc, and advised to buy locally or online.

Can anyone give me the name of a general purpose yeast that would suit?

All advice appreciated.
 
Safale S-04 would work well for a bitter as would Nottingham. Both would be better than the kit yeast, they are both quick fermenters and settle out well helping your beer to clear quicker. You could save a couple of quid by dropping the 2nd kit straight onto the yeast sediment from the first so you get 2 kits from 1 pack of yeast :thumb:
 
Reading a bit more I'd go for the Nottingham at this time of year unless you're able to cool during the ferment...the S-04 seems to produce what is described as a bubblegum flavour when fermenting warm. I've only used it in a fermenting fridge at 18C so I've not come across this issue.
