What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Another pint of Tribute. Pretty sure it’s my best brew ever. Only AG brew #10, and 1 extract kit done so far though. I really like the lower level of carbonation and it’s crystal clear after 11 days in the barrel even with no finings.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

    Ok thanks I’ll check this

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

Yeah read that a few times before embarking with this. Shame mine is the cheapo Youngs type. Seems they are poorly made. In that thread it does suggest using a cap spanner to tighten the lid, which I did not do. Perhaps it isn’t tight enough.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

Yes it’s a bit annoying, I put a load of Vaseline all over the place. Possibly a dodgy rubber seal connection in the cap.

    Pressure Barrel not dispensing

I’ve just started using a pressure barrel that I got when I started brewing in a starter kit. I never used it as I went straight to bottling then corny kegs. I gave it a go recently with an English ale as thought that would work with warmer flatter beer and it really dispenses amazing pub...

    Skinners Brewery

Yes I hope so too, for now at least they’re still available. I’m a fan of the Maharaja IPA too.

    Skinners Brewery

Spot on. A lot of success is all about marketing, not about quality of beer. This is not about brexit or politics, it’s about current drinking trends. “Old dairy brewery” or “Betty Stogs” is not going to appeal to the younger generation of craft beer efficianados who want NEIPA or Sours, Punk...

    Co2 gas issue

😂 I do have this same cheapo kegland regulator. It’s ok but certainly cannot operate via power of the mind.

    Skinners Brewery

It’s really sad, I loved drinking their beer on holiday in Cornwall. No chance of getting it anywhere round here in SE England, although I did notice it in Tesco in Cornwall it’s not in my local Tesco. I guess it couldn’t compete with the hipster looking cans with snazzy graphics. More old...

    Co2 gas issue

Yes but he did say that he turned it off.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

More of the Tribute clone. Just like the real thing and dare I say better than the bottled supermarket version. Lovely temperature in the garage now for it to be sitting in the pressure barrel. I’m really loving this, first time using it, a nice change from the cold beers from the kegerator...

    Heart of England Homebrew competition

It’d be kind of funny if someone won with a Wilko extract kit wouldn’t it? 😀

    Cleaning Fermzilla Alrounder.

You can use VWP to clean and sterilise as long as you give it a rinse with water afterwards.

Testing a Tribute clone after 6 days in the Pressure Barrel

    Pumpkin Spiced Ale

Yes good point, it is quite expensive compared to a pumpkin. Although the pumpkin ale in the book I mentioned only used 100g I think. Perhaps because it is purée you need less.

    Pumpkin Spiced Ale

There’s a couple of Pumpkin ales in the BYO clones book, they both use canned pumpkin purée which would make it simpler. I used to be able to get hold of it easily for making pumpkin pie but it’s sometimes hard to come by in the supermarket. Anyway, I think yes its mainly the pumpkin spices...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Pint from the keg of Vienna Lager. 2 weeks in keg. Will brew this again, recipe from BYO magazine. Or maybe a Marzen next time. I’m not really a lager drinker either, but this could sway me. Not sure why it would need weeks and weeks in the keg to condition. Maybe so it clears? I did add...

Suggestions for a good New Zealand IPA

I just brewed one today as I had 200g of NZ hops to use up. Grain bill was loosely based on Terrapin Hopsecutioner, a popular IPA in Georgia, USA. I made it slightly less bitter, in the 50s IBU instead of 70s. Also used Pilsner malt for the base to use that up but should technically be Pale Ale...
