    Beer engine issues

But can you guarantee @ivanb didn't remove the sparkler when doing the moving of the pipes over to the new container with water. I suspect some even many would. Pour a pint it works. Swap the pipes back and replace the sparkler then enjoy the pint poured without the sparkler. Put the sparkler...

    Beer engine issues

@RoomWithABrew I don't disagree with you to be honest. I now think the blanking sparkler is fitted when the Pinta365 dosen't work.

    Beer engine issues

Have you tried removing the sparkler and trying? Is the sparkler blocked? Are you sparkler free when you could pump water but for beer did you put the sparkler back on. Is that sparkler the blanking sparkler and not a pouring sparkler?

    Beer engine issues

@ivanb Are you 100% certain there is pressure inside the keg? How much water have you pumped through the engine. If it works in an open system with water I would pump through a good ten pints myself. Must admit I'm stumped on this.

    Dirty yeast

I've been thinking about making Marmite with spent yeast. I was just going to store it. What do you mean by "what would be good feed"? Why not freeze it. Edit: typo.

    Using Lactose for Sweetening

It's Liter Degrees per Kilogram One kilogram of stuff raises the gravity of one liter of liquid by the value in L°/KG. Value in L°/KG multiplied by Weight in KG __________________________________________ = Increase in Gravity Wort Volume So for example 500 grams of lactose in...

    Using Lactose for Sweetening

Klarstein Pro Mash Kettle Anti Burn

OK a bit late on a reply but as others on this forum wont know what the anti burn on a Klarstein is I will answer. You only "need" to recirculate when coming up to the boil. When close to boiling switch it off. In practice without using it i have never had any burning on the base of the system...

How has it taken them this long?

The DME beer kit has been available since the 1970's here in the UK. Hambleton Bard Dry Beer Kits They don't contain the dry hops but it is the same otherwise, a pouch of bittering goo, yeast and spray dried malt.

    Using older grain

+1 Brew with it. There's only one harvest each year, so almost all grain is old grain. And yes I know it's malted after harvest but I still stand by my point.

Oxygenation - oxidisation during wort racking

It's called "Double Dropping". See Wikipedia @ Double Dropping for an explanation. On a seperate note I typically re-oxgenate for the first 48 hours of fermentation, every six hours. More oxygen creates = healthy yeast to complete the fermentation process. No stalled brews. Oxygen can be...

    Befuddled by the Defuddler

Thank you so much for replying. :D The numbers are different from those I posted earlier as you appear to be using the year ended 2014 water report, have you mislaid your reading glasses?. No need to change tho - I am just trying to understand how the Defuddler works. The latest water report is...

Catering thermos/tea urn as a mash tun?

I see no problem at all. When I first read the post title I was thinking of the 2 liter type, Thermos branded flasks. Believe me or not but these are indeed used as mini mash tuns both for yeast starters and for home brewing pilot brews. If I was in your place I would have already placed an...

    Befuddled by the Defuddler

I am trying to understand @peebee 's Defuddler spreadsheet. When targeting a water profile I use Graham Wheeler's Liquor Treatment Calculator over on JBK. I do have all the six required values from water reports and by using the Salifert alkalinity test kit but the anion's and cations don't...

    Muntons Smugglers: kit vs AG

I sincerely hope you are feeling well sooner rather than later. If a stranger can help, private message me. I would be aghast if a cry for help was missed. I am willing to do anything to improve this melancholy you must be feeling. Many others have felt the same inluding myself - you are not alone.

    Re-using Puro Oxi?

None. Nil. Never. Sodium carbonate peroxide/sodium percarbonate reacts with water and breaks down in 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on water temperature. Dissolved in water, sodium percarbonate yields a mixture of hydrogen peroxide (which decomposes to water). oxygen, sodium and carbonate. See...

How to tell when conversion is complete

Off Topic but On my text tab in my browser I have open "London and Country Brewer" first printed in 1730 and I am on page 23. Page 23 includes "For brewing Strong brown Ale called Stitch". What a remarkable coincidence to read about "Stitch" then see it mentioned in a post as I start browsing...
