    busy busy day

Bottling days can be a bit of a pain. I don't mind the actual bottling, it's cleaning and sterilising all the bottles that's a pain!

    help? Pear wine not clearing

Hey brewtrog, as mentioned it's already had two doses of the stuff! Thanks Oldbloke, I'll give it another dose and see. Anyone know if you add too much pectolaise and any idea what the effect on the wine would be?

    help? Pear wine not clearing

Thanks for the reply mate, I'm using Kwick Clear finings which have worked on my past brews incuding another pear that I did last year. I'll have a wee look into it and see if I can find anything though

    help? Pear wine not clearing

Hi guys, I started a pear wine (from the fruit) a couple of months back. Pipped it all and put it in the primary and let it ferment out. It threw a lot of sediment so I de-gassed, racked it, added finings and stabiliser and left to clear for a week. It wasn't clear so I added another dose of...

Brew No6: Red grape and blueberry

Ok mate, sorry it's taken so long to reply. Personally I just do it roughly by the total sugar content. To get an accurate figuire you will need to roughly calculate how much sugar is in the must, so look at how much sugar there is in the juice, and use a table to estimate how much you need to...

Brew No6: Red grape and blueberry

I bottled this a few weekends back. Ended up stopping it short and having it as a sweet wine. Its quite plesant and my misus favourite so far!

Rasberry Syrop Wine and a miscalculation

So, my blueberry wine finished and was bottled so I had a spare demijohn lying empty and since I finally managed to get some WGJ at the weekend I got another brew on tonight. Recipe was: 440ml Polish syrup (Rasberry flavour) 3.5l WGJ 0.5l water 700g Sugar 1 tsp Pectolase 2 Tablets yeast...

    Pear Wine Brew

Thanks guys, I was just starting to think about racking this one but I'll leave it until it ferments out. Still a couple of weeks left to go minimum

    Cherry Polish Syrup Wine

Cheers mate, it's not the Lowicz one though, brand name seems to be Dar Lata. It's doing grand now, fermentation well under way and going strong so all is good. You're right, the Welches juice I used isn't 100% but as I'm aiming for the syrop to be the main flavour I'm not too fussed, and my...

    Pear Wine Brew

So I left this a bit longer than I had intended, but I strained it last night into my FV and sqeezed the pulp to get some extra juce out. Mesured the SG at about 1.088 after I had topped it back up to the 23l mark. I added: 4tsp of pectolase 5tsp of tannin 1/2 tsp mixed acid 8 crushed nutrient...

    Cherry Polish Syrup Wine

Yeah, google translate can be helpful when checking out the ingredients list, or so I found anyway. Uptade on the wine: After a wee bit of a slow start the wine is now bubling away. I'd left a fair bit of headspace in case it foamed up, but it only produced a little foam which died down...

    Cherry Polish Syrup Wine

Oh yes mate, I tried a small bit of the syrops and they are good indeed. This is my first attempt at brewing with them, but am told they are good as cordials, in smoothies etc and i can see would go really well with ice cream! A couple of my Polish mates even put them in beer! The ones I got...

    Cherry Polish Syrup Wine

So, a couple of my mates went to Poland and managed to bring me back a few Polish syrups. I finally got a brew on tonight. Recipe: 440ml Polish syrup (cherry flavour) 4l Welches white grape, apple & pear 650g Sugar 1/2 tsp Pectolase 2 Tablets yeast nutrient 1/2 tsp Tannin 1/4 tsp Mixed acid 1...

    Tinned strawberries

Some Tescos do them too. Last one I did I just used the 200ml cartons though as that was all my local one had

    Pear Wine Brew

Right lads, Well I ended up grabbing a 11kg of pears at the weekend, so the night before last I washed them and crushed/chopped them in a sterilised 5gal FV. I had intended to go with the dry extraction technique, so in went 4.5kgs of sugar but there was a bit too much pear juice at the bottom...

    Racked off - fermentation stopped!

My Rubarb wine was very slow to ferment mate, after an initial flurry it slowed right down and took about 3 months to ferment out. After it finished I left it in a corner for another 3 months. bottom line is don't panic.

    Have I cocked up?

Personally I don't go nuts with the camden tablets. I only put one in at the end with the stabiliser with the WOW type recipes. Make sure they are degassed if your having problems with them clearing as well.

    My Rubarb Brew....

Latest update: The wine took a few days to stabilise and clear but I just left it in a corner to bulk age a bit. Anyway decided to bottle last night. So with a little help from the bairn I got 29 wine bottles and an extra 2l of the stuff in an old soft drinks bottle. A bit epic considering I...

    Brew No 5, the TC

Thanks greysalchemy, good advice which one of these days I will pay heed to! Must admit I was attracted to turbo cider because of the quick brewing time and the ready available ingredients. I have noticed a marked improvement in my wines after 3 months (the few bottles that last that long...
