    1st wherry - keg worries

If you think that the extract has not mixed through the water properly and has settled at the bottom of the FV then you could give it a good stir now with a sanitised spoon/ladle/whatever and you will do no harm.

    Coffee grinder for crushing barley?

What type of grinder do you have? Is it one of those electric ones that have the spinning blade? If so I would be wary of using it as you will shred the husks which will have two effects: 1. Reduce the husk's ability to act as a filter in the mash 2. May lead to the extraction of more tannins...

AG#1 - Hooky Bitter (GW) BIAB - PICTURES!!!!

Stirring the mash when BIABing is a good thing as we usually have a lot thinner mash than the 3 vessel method. This means the enzymes are diluted through the mash and stirring helps to move them around to get more contact with the starches. Of course you might experience a bigger temp loss by...

    Hook Norton Brewery Ingredients List

It is enzymatic or aciduated malt. It lowers the pH in your mash (slightly more acidic) which improves the extraction efficiency I think.

    Hook Norton Brewery Ingredients List

Hi guys. It was my 40th birthday last week and my wife, who hates beer, organised for us to have a weekend staying in Witney and do the brewery tours at Hook Norton and Wychwood brewery while we were up there - How's that for true love? :D Anyway, I took a snap of the list of ingredients...

    all grain brewing

Hey Steve! Graham Wheelers site http://www.practicalbrewing.co.uk/is good for the basics or this site http://www.howtobrew.com/intro.html is a good guide to all-grain brewing from an American perspective

    Another AG 'cherry' lost.

Don't apologise for it being a BIAB brew. Its still all-grain brewing without the sparge (or with it in your case). Hope it turns out well! Cheers! Jim

I used these guys who are based in Ireland...http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/oat-husks-500g-p-1625.html?zenid=4103815a738350ab0dda625128ed1411 Great prices and great service. For those in the UK (like me) they have a .co.uk site with all the same products but prices in pounds..

    Two 15min Extract Brews Today

I wouldn't like to say what the cluster are like just yet as I got the samples of the two brews mixed up. I always leave any judgement until the beer is conditioned. Both brews did have a berry fruit arome to them though.

    Two 15min Extract Brews Today

As both of these have been fermenting for a week I thought I better take some samples. The Cluster brew has been in the temp controlled fridge and the Bramling Cross has been in the study with a fleece over it. Both samples look identical as you would expect. Both samples have finished at...

    Two 15min Extract Brews Today

Hey Guys! A few things came together today that led me to do a couple of small batch extract brews. Firstly I had a few hours to spare unexpectedly. Secondly I had some bought some cheap dried extract from The Home Brew Company (Ireland). And thirdly I had a couple of packs of hops that needed...

    Bottled up the Extract

Nice looking brew there! If you do have a problem with fusel alcohol in the brew then you will soon be able to taste it. I had this problem with a couple of beers before I got proper temp control for fermentation. I left them for a few of months and they smoothed out nicely.

Wheat Beers can they be clear?

What proportion of wheat or torri wheat have you used in the brews that were cloudy? As pittsy said wheat beers will usually be cloudy from the proteins and yeast but if you are just talking about ales with a few hundred grams of wheat in them then usually it won't be a real problem...

    Rye malt

My next brew is due to be a RyePA - that is if I don't get sidetracked into a diifferent brew... The recipe is posted here http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=28779 and I have since decided to double the rye content. I have some oat husks on the way ready for...
