Hi guys

Bottled my Spitfire Extract clone today.

Smells Great, Colour is beautiful and the taste was pretty good too, I think its going to be maltier than Spitfire but good all the same :thumb:

Ended up with 33 bottles (500ml) which considering I lost a fair amount with spill over and evap etc, Im quite happy!! :D

Oh and considering I never used any finings its looking pretty damn clear too

Another few weeks and I will report on the taste, if I can wait that long ;)

Thanks for the advice, i didnt realise they had to be stored in the dark!!

One thing i did notice is a slight film on the top of the beer??? It developed in the fv and now some of the bOttles have it too, is this normal or do i have a problem??

hopefully its just some of the oils from the hops! did the beer smell or taste infected when you were bottling?

Smell and taste was fine, if i were to describe it again i would defo say it was like an oil type film, hopefully its nothing serious!
Thanks again

OK, after a bit of searching I have come to the conclusion that.........
The oily film I have on my beer is one of 2 things :wha:
Either, Hop oils or.........Fusel alcohols. Im worried that its the later as I had this fermenting at too high a temp for the first 12-18 hours

The film developed in the secondary FV.

If this is fusel alcohols what does this mean for my beer?

Any thoughts guys??

Cheers

Chris

Nice looking brew there!

If you do have a problem with fusel alcohol in the brew then you will soon be able to taste it. I had this problem with a couple of beers before I got proper temp control for fermentation. I left them for a few of months and they smoothed out nicely.

in 4 weeks time have 4 or 5 and if you can't taste a problem with it and you don't get a hangover its fine , worse thing that will happen is it tastes funny and gives you a sore head

mate if it tasted ok and smelt ok then it will be fine. give it 2 weeks at room temp, then a minimum of 1 month at a colder temp.to quote Snow Patrol 'If it looks like it works and it feels like it works then it works'

What temp did you ferment it at ? And it does look clear, I'd give it a bit longer than normal to carbonate to make up for a low yeast count
