There is a Home brew shop in canton in cardiff but this is due to close anytime soon. The Owner told me that her friend was opening a new home brew shop in Donald st Cardiff. Hope this is useful.

Hi this is Barbara, I have opened the new home brew shop in Donald Street Cardiff. It's a small family run business and we are all excited and pleased with the feedback and comments we have had so far. We've been busy stocking the shop with a range of brew packs, brew equipment etc. We are inviting all customers and callers to give their views on the shop so we can truly reflect their needs. Thanks for the comments in this discussion. If anyone wishes to give us any tips or hints we are all ears.

We have tried to make the shop clean and airy and one where you can browse through the shelves to find brews that may tickly your fancy. I take the comment about being orderly and organised and I thoroughly agree with you all.

Looking forward to more discussions either on this forum or when you call into the shop.

Hi Barbara,
Good to hear about your new venture,I wish you the best of luck with it.
Have you got a website?I will try to pop in during the next week or 2 and hopefully meet you for a chat . :thumb:

Popped in today great stuff, very well situated with the students, Barbara wasnt about, but i think i spoke to your daughter?????
Because of where you are situated, well within a student area, it could well be worth posting leaflets, as Wilkinsons isnt far away, and they may go there for business rather than your shop.
All the best with it.

Thanks for all your replies and interest. Looking forward to meeting some of you. Please call in for a chat. Yes we are due to do a leaflet drop soon. We will be encouraging students and locals to become home brewers. We have put some basic equipment packs together for them. Our motto will be

'Home brewing is CHEAP, EASY and FUN'.

I am currently making some Pinot Grigio and Chamblaise style wine. Just bottled a really nice Monte Pulciano and some Pink Chardonnay type wine.

Mike is just starting some cider from a Black Rock pack, Nathan is concentrating on his pear cider and Craig is our lager king.

Fran has just finished making 21 bottles of Pinot Grigio and Caroline is starting some Chardonnay.

You can see how our family is split. The boys are on the brews and the girls are on the wine. It's a very happy split!!!!!

Our website in under construction and can be viewed at

Hope to see you all soon!

All the best with it, you certainly seem to have the right approach :thumb:

Popped in today to pick up some amylase, lovely service, very helpful and will not hesitate to reccomend. 5*

I called in last week - really warm welcome, excellent stock and keen prices. Good range of ingredients, (all grain myself but they've kits and wine making too) and very knowledgeable. On street parking easy enough to find. I've no connection to them (live in Swansea in fact so nuff said!) and would say definitely worth calling in. They also post out smaller items

I have used this shop several times, and the service is excellent.

I called around a few days ago to find it closed, with a sign in the window saying that after a car had crashed though the front window, that had lost most of their stock and that they would be closed until the insurance sorts this out.

I hope they get reimbursed for their losses and re-open soon, as supporting a small local business is better than a faceless organisation.

Do they stock much in the way of grain and hops? I find the lack of info on their website to be frustrating...

I just tried to call in here, and as stated above it is still closed after a car crashed into it earlier this year. There's also a To Let sign up so I'm not sure how much chance there is of it reopening.

It reopened several months ago and i have been there about 4 times since.. I haven't seen it for a month so cant confirm if its closed down. I hope not .
I did arrive one day during working hours and it was closed with an old fashioned 'just popped out' message in the window so i dont think they keep regimented open hours.

Anyone else from SW able to confirm if closed down?

Well when I went passed there was no stock, save about 3 demijohns in the window, and two blokes inside who looked like they were mulling over where to put or not put a shelf. The sign in the window still said that it was closed due to the car crashing into the window.

It is sadly now shut :(

I swapped a few emails with them recently, they emptied the shop some time around the 12th October. The insurance company is / was messing them about over the car crash and they couldn't carry the sort of stock they wanted to any more.

The last I heard from the proprieter was that they were looking for another location, but were constrained until the insurance was sorted out.

I'm rather sad as it was very handy for getting my S30 cylinders exchanged and I can't find anywhere else local to swap them now.

Yes I heard last week. A work colleague called around and it was closed down. I hope they manage to set up somewhere else soon, fingers crossed for them .
