Have a good brewday!

With 500g of peat smoked malt you will certainly get a smokey beer. It will be interesting to hear how it turns out..

Yes I hope so, being a big fan of Islay malts I wanted to try and recreate a bit of a taste of Scotland :) the peated malt smells amazing, its VERY peaty :D

Brewday going well so far, grist is doughed in and mash is away - about 80 mins remain...

Just weighed out the hops and realised I had no East Kent goldings left DOH! and it turns out I only have 20g of Fuggles left as well :x

Oh well recipe has changed slightly but never mind...hop bill is now:

12g First Gold @60min
12g Styrian Goldings (pellets) @60min
20g Fuggles @0min

God what a polava!!! I have had the slowest run off ever, it kept getting stuck! Queue over an hour of fannying around blowing up the pipe and sucking the wort out, I will not be surprised if I end up with some infected beer TBH. It probably has a fair bit of my spit in there mixed in with sweat...and probably tears also...I dont think the pellet hops and my hop strainer are meant for each other...Grrrr!!!! :x

Well its all tucked up in the FV now, ended up with just under 23 litres (eventually!) :)

I wouldn't worry too much about infection as long all that contact was pre-boil.

Look forward to hearing how the smokiness goes with this one.

No all the faffing was when draining the cooled wort into FV, I did use a yeast starter on this one and it has went off like a rocket in the FV and is starting to bubble away quite nicely now...am thinking it should be ok but still keeping my fingers crossed!
