    Newbie pressure leak question

I often have this problem using a pressure barrel too. I concluded it was down to cheap taps that couldn't hold the pressure without leaking. Next time I use a barrel rather than bottles I am going to try and get a slightly more 'up-market' tap and see if that helps.

How to Morrisons Savers Kettle Boiler

I seem to remember reading somewhere that food safe plastic is good to significantly over boiling temp. I will have to see if I can find out the original article to check but I think it would be fine.

    Sterilising Equipment

Hi Jed, Yes you should sterilise everything, I usually make up a gallon of steriliser in my fermenting bucket and dump everything in there. As long as they are covered in the solution you don't need to sponge them or anything, just turn the bigger stuff so all bits of it come into contact...

What type of water do you use?? Bottled spring water or just normal tap water??

I just use tap water, I would only worry about using a different water source if your beer made from tap water was tasting bad

    Extract kits fermenting temperature

I'd say that should do it, my house gets a little cold so I eventually bought a little aquarium heater which helps and is a lot cheaper than the specialist brewing heaters. Before I used that though I just wrapped it in blankets and hoped for the best. I am not allowed to use the airing cupboard...

    storing hops.

If you had plenty of hops stored in one pack in the freezer would the temperature abuse of defrosting and re-freezing them across several brews cause a problem? In that case I guess they have to be stored in useable portions rather than in bulk. What would be the shelf life of hops stored in...

    Newbie bottling it

Couldn't you just bottle what you have got fermenting when that is ready and leave the first brew in the keg to drink from there?

To airlock or not to airlock ...

Hi all, A lot of the information on beer brewing (particularly on american sites/forums it seems) stress the importance of using an airlock when you brew. I never have and haven't had any problems so far (only done a handful of brews though) I have always just left the lid of my fermenter...

Beer quality kit vs extract vs all grain

Do you also see there being any difference in the quality of the finished product between a liquid malt extract or a dry one?

    Fermenter size

Hi All, I usually brew 40 pints at a time but I was thinking of making a half size batch so I can play around with a few things in smaller quantities. Is there anything wrong with fermenting a smaller brew in the usual size fermenting bucket or will all the extra air space there cause me a...
