    How cold is too cold?

Good to hear that guys! I came to the conclusion that I leave beer outside in a box for days (so I don't get a grilling for hogging the fridge). As I have had no issues with storing the bought beer there I can't imagine my home brew would differ in the garage :drunk:

    How cold is too cold?

Cheers for the reply MyQul! The temp that beer freezes surely depends on the ABV% though? BBC forecast predicts it will be as low as 0 C tonight, although my bottles are boxed in the garage and covered with a blanket, I'm keen not to risk ruining them though I'm sure they could handle lower...

    How cold is too cold?

Be nice to hear peoples opinions and experience on this... Put my first brews worth of bottles in the garage last week after two weeks in the warm. I too was worried it might be too cold in there but share your problem. Hope I haven't ruined them as they were tasting pretty reasonable before I...

    Too high a stable gravity?

Great stuff, good to hear that slid will get it bottled tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how good the Coopers Stout actually is after hearing people rave about it.. Can't wait!

    Too high a stable gravity?

I wouldn't say I was looking to up the ABV%, just wanted to be certain fermentation was finished prior to bottling to avoid bottle bombs more than anything. Cheers

    Too high a stable gravity?

Hi guys, I currently have two Coopers Stout tweaks in my FV's which have both been fermenting for two weeks now. Over the last two days the gravity reading of both has been stable at 1.018. I'm quite new to the brewing game but this seems a little high to me, am I right in thinking this?Also...

Trug Buckets, Aquarium Heaters and a floating FV

Cheers mate that's good to hear!

Trug Buckets, Aquarium Heaters and a floating FV

Cheers for the help guys. Taking on board what you've advised, I've lightly taped the FV to the trug bucket, the wort is now sat level and the FV is stable enough. My main concerns were that the wort wasn't sat level prior to taping and that the bobbing of the FV might cause a disturbance to...

Trug Buckets, Aquarium Heaters and a floating FV

Hi guys, just rigged up my first brew using a 100w aquarium heater in a bucket of water. Temperature control is brilliant and seems to be working a treat as the airlock on my stout is going mental! My only worry is that the FV is floating slightly and as such the wort and FV are sitting slightly...

    Novice Coopers stout query

Ay up guys, sorry to repeat my earlier post but I value the advice given on here and was hoping for some before getting a brew on tomorrow afternoon. Seeing so many people raving about the kit and being fond of a good old stout... I decided to get 2 on the go as my third and fourth brew. First...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Ay up guys. After seeing so many people raving about the kit and being fond of a good old stout... I've decided to get 2 on the go as my third and fourth brew. I plan to do a turbo stout with a tin of Original Coopers Stout, 1.5kg of Dark LME and 500g of Muscovado to 20l with the kit yeast and a...

First time brewer looking for advice

Tell me about it! Wish I hadn't followed them in the first place and brewed both kits shorts to 20l. Ah well.. suppose it'll give me a better idea of the improvements these adjustments make in future.

First time brewer looking for advice

P.s Hopping Mad it's an English Bitter.. not fond of the old wheat beer myself! Should probably add that I supped the tester and it tasted better than expected, seems it'd be a promising tipple once further abv has be gained.

First time brewer looking for advice

Cheers for the swift replies guys :-) Its still giving off co2, still plenty of airlock activity, that said it initially took 2 to 3 days to show any signs of fermentation. The instructions advise a temp of 17-24 and say fermentation should take 4-6 days. Its been sat between 18 and 20 wrapped...

First time brewer looking for advice

Hi guys, I was hoping some of you might be nice enough to share some of your wisdom and shed some light on my current situation. I currently have a Gone With The Wheat Bitter in my FV, it's been in there for 10 days now so I decided to take a hydrometer reading. After 10 days its only dropped...

Concerns of a first time brewer

Thanks for the good news! The air lock is bubbling.. a little less than the APA but definitely bubbling! As its only been in for 3 days I've refrained from opening the lid to take a look to try and avoid any contamination. I did originally plan to follow the instructions, although I'm now...

Concerns of a first time brewer

Hi guys, I'm currently in the process of brewing my first kits, a Young's APA and a Gone With The Wheat Bitter. I started them off on Sunday evening and in both fermentation appears to have started as there is activity in both airlocks. This said I have concerns about the Gone With The Wheat...

    Airlock query

Touche! I currently have room for two in the house but have a double garage and am already thinking of constructing something capable of holding around 4 fv's. Possibly an insulated chipboard container, with a hinged lid using a green house tubular heater and thermostat.. Probably getting ahead...
