Help. My brew smells of poo!

I used normal clear honey from Tesco so I don't think it would have anything nasty in it. But you never know, I guess. Next time I'll be sure to boil it in some wort before adding it to the rest.

Help. My brew smells of poo!

That sir, is a top shout. No I didn't boil it but it seems kind of obvious now that I should have. The smell is still getting weaker and weaker though through the days. I certainly won't be moving it to keg for at least another week. Live and learn I suppose :D Dan

Help. My brew smells of poo!

Possibly, yes. No idea why I did it just experimenting I guess.. Maybe if I add 1kg of manure it'll come up smelling of honey? I'm sure that's how it works, right. Dan

Help. My brew smells of poo!

It certainly did reek. I think it's starting to calm down now as I use to be able to smell if from the living room and now I can only smell it when I'm in the same room. Think I'll leave in the fermentation bin for a bit longer than usual so hopefully the smell can reside some more... Dan

Help. My brew smells of poo!

Brewing my third batch of beer. It's a Cooper's Wheat Beer and I used 1000g of honey. It's two days into fermentation at it has the most god-awful stench. I was just wondering could this have anything to do with the honey? Did I add too much? Should I be worried or is the stench a normal...

    Hard Apple Cider Noob

Okay cheers guys, what sort of gravity should I be looking to get before adding my yeast? I'll only be making a gallon as it's my first time with hard cider so I won't be left 40 pints of **** cider lol Dan

    Hard Apple Cider Noob

Hi all, looking to make some hard apple cider over the next few weeks and after watching this video on youtube I'm a bit confused: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La38oQjdyPw Would I really have to bother with a yeast nutrient? Surely all the sugar I'd be adding and all the sweetness from the...

beer kit enhancers / malt extract - what/why?

Okay cheers, think I'm going to go for 500g of spray malt and 500g of ordinary sugar then :P Yummy yum yum

beer kit enhancers / malt extract - what/why?

Hijacked. I've got some Cooper's IPA which I should be starting on tomorrow. The instructions call for 500g of spraymalt and 300g of sugar which obviously only comes to 800g total. Why only 800g of fermentables rather than the usual 1000g? Dan

First homebrew lager is rather flat

Have you considered injecting some CO2 into your brew through a small cylinder and new lid for your keg? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Homebrew-CO2- ... _575wt_750 Dan

First homebrew lager is rather flat

How long has it been since you kegged?

First homebrew lager is rather flat

You'd put a bit of sugar in the bottom of every bottle so it would carbonate. CO2 can escape a keg much easier than a bottle :) Dan

    youngs barrel wont seal

Same here, you won't get an air-tight seal unless you lubricate the rubber seal on the cap. Also, make sure the tap is at 90 degrees to the barrel as anything past that and mine tends to leak; don't know if yours is the same. I emailed Homebrewonline and they said this was normal with their...

    Chilling Kegged Brew

I think you're right about that :D I ordered a second keg last and some wheat beer extract too, so I'll be starting on that as soon as it arrives. Then after that some IPA and maybe a stout, who knows, eh Dan

    Chilling Kegged Brew

Cheers mate, I may have had a cheeky taste last night. And WOW it's already much better than anything I can get in the pub and at a fraction of the cost too :P

    Using Honey

Hi all, I've got my next batch of beer to brew (cooper's wheat beer). I've bought 500g of spray malt to ferment with and I know it needs another 300g of sugar too. My question is though, is it okay to just substitute the 300g of sugar for 300g of honey? How would this effect the taste and would...
