hy all i need help im fed up ive purchased 2x youngs homebrew barrels each costing £30 filled full of water and pressured up left for a week no leaks spot on holding pressure but as soon as i put lager and stout in them after a few days they bloody leak out of the tap joint ive changed washers and new taps but still no good ive wasted 4x brew kits helllppppp :(

I had issues with my youngs barrel lid sealing properly when i first started out due to not setting the keg up correctly. Do as wendy says, try some vaseline round the tap thread or some plumbing tape. Just make sure you don't tighten it so much that it deforms the washers, hope ya get it sorted

Same here, you won't get an air-tight seal unless you lubricate the rubber seal on the cap. Also, make sure the tap is at 90 degrees to the barrel as anything past that and mine tends to leak; don't know if yours is the same. I emailed Homebrewonline and they said this was normal with their kegs... (made by youngs)

A warning on their site would've been nice!

In the past I've blown into my tap ( no beer in obviously ) when it's closed during cleaning and it's not air tight ? Seems to hold beer and pressure though. If I turned it slightly I would not be able to blow though it so perhaps it's an orientation issue ?

one other thing i have the s30 valve lid how do i test the pressure releif

hy all i put thread tape on tap and vasalene around seal and its done it again am i doing something wrong ,

Hiya mate , i started off with a youngs barrel , the problem is when the beer is secondary fermenting the gases build up , the barrel cant take the pressure ... so its got to find a exit (this will be one of your seals ) so what i had to do ... every couple of days is to open the barrel top a little to let some of the pressure off .
In the end i got sick of arsing round doing this and got myself some corny's off Norm ;)

i think youve hit the nail on the head, so youd recomend a different barrel

I have 2 Youngs 5 gallon and a 2 gallon plastic pressure barrels and all seal ok with the aid of a light smear of vasaline on tap or lid O rings. They certainly take the pressure ok. postively bulging at times but never leak.
