My First Simple BIAB Recipe - Feedback

It's going to be very pale with your current recipe. I would add some crystal 20 or 40 myself to add a bit of colour... Maybe 10% of the overall grain bill would do nicely. 5% wheat is good for head retention. But I'm not that experienced, so the experts will be along shortly I'm sure.

Anyone Used Nitrogen instead of Co2 In a pressure Keg?

Left Hand Brewing in Colorado, USA are using Nitrogen to great effect in 3 of theirs beers. It is definitely being used by an increasing number of craft Breweries.

    Malt Miller Stainless Boiler

Thanks Andy. Its certainly the best price I've seen for pre-built. It's a birthday present from the Mrs so not cash I'm going to miss! Looking forward to first use now.

    Malt Miller Stainless Boiler

Thanks for all the replies. Given me the confidence to go ahead and order. I will probably build my own HLT and Mash tun when I have the space in new house.

    Malt Miller Stainless Boiler

Considering treating myself to a new boiler. Firstly for BIAB and then as part of a 3v setup when I get the bits together. Have seen the 100L boiler with tap and hop filter on the Malt Miller site. For £100 all built I thought this was a good buy. I read good things about the site on this...

    vanilla coopers stout?

I did this to the coopers stout kit a few months back. I slit 2 vanilla pods length ways keeping the seeds (from sainsburys found in the baking aisle) and infused them in vodka for about a week. I gently added the pods and vodka into the fv after the initial first week of fermentation. I left...

My first brew. Just got couple questions

It will be fine. Most people on the forum don't even touch their brew until 2 weeks in. Take hydrometer readings 3 days in a row. If they are all the same you should be good to bottle. Enjoy.

    Hose Connectors

Tri clamps would be my choice, although expensive. Used them in a micro brewery when I visited Colorado last year. Quick and easy and (certainly in the commercial size tri clamps) you can get all sorts of fittings... t piece, y piece, sight glasses and all other number of pieces.

Tips for syphoning when using hops

Get a hop bag and drop it in. Boil the bag in some water first with something heavy like a spoon or glass beads. Put the hops and heavy item into the bag and drop into the beer. This will keep the hops from floating on the surface.

    Brew #5 - Vanilla Stout

How are you doing the vanilla? I recently did a coopers stout and added 2 vanilla pods slit lengthways into some vodka for a few days, then chucked the lot into the fv after initial fermentation had finished. I originally intended them to be in there for a week but after tasting I decided they...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

I have done this kit before, a couple of years a go. Back then I did it with 500g or so of brewing sugar and it was great. This time, however, I thought I'd step it up a notch. I added 1.5kg of extra dark DME, 500g of Muscovado sugar and a pot of coffee made with 5 scoops. After a week in the...

    Coopers Website Dark Ale Recipe

There is no reason why not. It would make it a bit darker and alter the taste I would imagine and probably up the ABV. But hey, whats the worst that could happen?

    Bottle sterilising.

What solution are you using? I use starsan, don't fill completely, as long as contact is made with all the interior of the bottle. Pour out and reuse solution. About an inch is normally an appropriate amount of head space in the bottle.

    First time brew.

For a Lager most people use 1tsp per 500ml bottle. I would recommend picking up some proper measuring spoons to get some consistency. Most people will recommend batch priming for future brews. But for this you will need a Bottling bucket. I'm quite happy individually priming the bottles. I...

    small beer bottles

I managed to collect 70 bottles - some 330ml, some 350ml ranging from Sierra Nevada Pale Ale bottles, BrewDog Punk IPA and Cobra (for those times you just have to have a mass produced indian lager with a curry - seem slightly harder to cap but are fine). About £1.80 a bottle from Sainsburys...

Home brew starter to make own beer

Welcome If you want to make your own recipes straight away the cheapest way is to go straight for All Grain using the Brew In A Bag method (BIAB). Have a look in the How to Guides section for some more info. Enjoy

Punk IPA - Oh my god

This beer is now my go to beer of choice when I want to buy some instead of drinking my homebrew. £1.80 in sainsburys. Their 5am saint is good too (also in sainsburys). Infact I haven't tried a bad beer from them yet... although be cautious with their hardcore IPA, that is hopped to hell and...
