Looking for a bit of advice on the recipe (see below) for dark ale on the Coopers website. I have a can of the DME (1.5kg) and was wondering if I could get away with using the full can and leaving out the sugar as I don't want the other half to go to waste. New to all this so any help or advice appreciated.

Cheers

Ingredients
*1.7kg can Australian Pale Ale
*750g (half a can) Thomas Coopers Dark Malt Extract
*200g Sugar

There is no reason why not. It would make it a bit darker and alter the taste I would imagine and probably up the ABV. But hey, whats the worst that could happen?

Knowing my luck quite a lot. I think I'll just stick to the original recipe for now and see how it turns out. Then I can maybe start tweaking it a bit in the future.

As for dry hopping I wouldn't know where to start. I'll do a bit of reading and file that one for future use as well.

Cheers guys :thumb:

I actually really enjoy the Coopers Dark Ale kit, just go that straight up if you're after a dark ;) I usually use 1kg dark malt extract, 200g dextrose. Have dry hopped before but they taste pretty darn good on their own! Ferment at 18-20...lovely!
