    Plastic Barrel Suitable For Boiler?

Does anyone know how suitable plastic barrels like these will be as a HLT/boiler? Very interested in getting three of them and converting them to a three vessel brewery if they're any good. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 2081075469

Moving from Kits to AG Equipment advice

Very, very interested in seeing how your build goes as I'm probably going to be doing exactly the same, even down to the exact same pots from Bergland!

    Vinegar/White Wine Smell?

Just took a sample of my Brewbuddy Pear Cider kit and there is a vinegary/white wine-ish smell coming from it. Had a taste and it tasted fine, so is it ruined? It's been fermenting for a week now, OG was around about 1.040 and the gravity now is about 1.020.

    Very Vigorous Fermentation

Thanks guys. Not got the stuff to make a blow-off tube so I think I'll just clean it up as best I can.

    Very Vigorous Fermentation

A blow-off tube, what's that? I had no idea the fermentation was going to be like this, the other threw brews I've done have been nothing like this. This is the first time I've used a non-kit yeast though.

    Very Vigorous Fermentation

Brewed a Brewferm Tarwebier on Friday, and the next morning when I had a look at it the lid of the FV was almost blown off. Decided not to use an airlock as my other FV that has one is a badly cut hole + grommet that isn't perfect so I thought I might get away with it. Had no idea how vigorous...

    Turkey Baster

I've recently been using a turkey baster to take samples of my beer for testing but to use the baster it always squirts a bunch of air into the beer before it sucks it up. Isn't this a big no-no and is there anything I can do to stop it?

    Fermenting Bucket Scratched

Recently I bought a bunch of used equipment from a guy on Gumtree, and one of the fermenting buckets has some pretty big scratches on the bottom. Is it still safe to use as long as I sanitize it properly or would I be better off getting rid or just using it for storage?

What size brewery do you currently have? Sure you could find somebody to buy it. ;)

Moving from Kits to AG Equipment advice

Ah, so all your water is heated in one vessel up to the desired temperature, some is transferred to a second vessel to mash and after mashing is complete you run that water off into a third vessel while running the rest of the water from the first vessel through the second vessel to sparge and...

Moving from Kits to AG Equipment advice

Is this the standard 3 vessel technique for AG: Heat water in boiler to mash temp, move to mash tun to mash, after mash move water to HLT for boiling, move to FV? I'm probably being rather stupid as I can't seem to get my head around it.

    Kit Out Of Date?

Thanks! Will keep an eye on it over the next couple of days and make sure it's fermenting.

    Kit Out Of Date?

I bought a bunch of cheap equipment off Gumtree, and it came with a Brewbuddy Pear Cider kit. Today I brewed it, but on the top of the can it said JAN 2013. Is it out of date or should I not be worried? I'm not really that bothered about the kit as it didn't really cost me anything.

    Bottling From Pressure Barrel

Ok thanks! Think I might just bottle everything normally, using the barrel as an unpressurized batch priming and bottling bucket! :)
