If we have sprouts we half them short boil drain and then fry them with bacon or chorizo. Still not great though.
 
Well i will say, Turkey and parsnips are only fit for pig swill and should be banned, i hate Christmas dinner but tolerate it to keep the peace, i would prefare a roast beef joint and yes with sprouts they are food of the gods people do not know how to cook them, they should be shredded and fried with bacon and sprinkeled with parmesan cheese and finished under a hot grill
 
I do like parsnips...and sprouts. I really like dauphinoise potatoes or celeriac but there's something about mixing them with cream and garlic gives me horrendous indigestion. Strange as I eat loads of garlic and have no bother with cream in dessert.
 
Even though I grow my own veg, I prefer frozen button sprouts sautéed in butter. I don’t bother growing them, him indoors won’t eat them and my hens aren’t interested either. Much easier to keep a small bag in the freezer just for me.

No to Yorkies with Christmas dinner. I have a foolproof recipe that takes me seconds to whip up & I make them every week, but not with Christmas dinner.
 
Not had turkey in years (well unless we pick up a post Xmas sale frozen one on the cheap)

For Christmas dinner it's goose & gammon, but this year we are downsizing to duck & gammon.

We also do full sized pigs in blankets. None of those cocktail sausages or cutting chipolatas in half here.
 
If you don't like something then why do you have to have it for the sake of ritual and tradition? Sprouts don't commemorate Santa flying Rudolph over the Red Sea or anything daft like that. Christmas lunch is supposed to be a communal feast and rejoicing at the lengthening of the days and advent of Spring, not an ordeal.

I think that's a throwback to the days when there wasn't any meat left after the Sunday roast had been eaten. It was the main course,
My understanding (and I’ve married into a Yorkshire family ) is it was originally served with gravy before the meal to fill you up with low cost ingredients as meat was not only scarce but very expensive.
I’ve also been told of stories whereby housewives would sharpen a carving knife on the front doorstep on Sunday morning in order to fool the neighbours into thinking they were having roast meat for dinner ( Lunch if from down souff like me ) 🤣
